Im using a laptop with an nvidia 310 card in it that was working fine with the old lupu525 kernel and now trying your 525 with the new kernel I can't boot up into x, is there a big difference in the video drivers between the two or 2.6.38.3 took out some video support? I was using ice puppy bsed on your compiled kernel build of 2.6.38.2 and it seemed to work just fine yet I can't get yours to work, any help would be appriciated. |
DPUP5520:
yes. There is some different in config. Now I have recompiled the 2.6.38.3.

URL not working |

Hey mister, the URL you supplied me does not work. No response from server, do you think you could put it on a European or US server because the Chinese one blocks my ass out? Besides that, thank you very much for making the pet.

2.6.38.3-2 |
|
I have just downloaded the new 38.3-2 program myself... Here is what I initially found:
1: Your Desktop appears with 'Chinese' wording under Icons (this is easy enough to change by editing each Icon.)
2: I had no sound. even though there was a speaker showing in the tray (R/H Bottom of screen) At first it was muted but I was able to raise volume to 67% max with mouse but.... still no sound out of computer... Might be some settings need to be set up. If anyone has any answers, please post them here.
3: Now... biggest surprise was, it runs a lot slower than the Official 525, not so much on the Internet but going through regular Puppy stuff on your computer and getting to places, maybe it's just me or my old computer but, I don't yet know if this is good or bad? If the reason is for Security in the newer Kernel, that might be good, if it handles settings and features better, that could be good, otherwise, it's not good, more experts needed on this as it's beyond my knowledge.
4: Graphics are very nice and clear although I don't believe any better than Official 525.
5: Downloaded Iron-10 Browser from the News=Page in Quickpet and there were no problems there and Iron worked nice and Internet-fast as in Official 525!
6: On initial bootup... you don't get an option to select your country, you go direct to desktop but it seems to configue everything on its own OK (screen resolution, size for monitor correct, etc., etc.)
And... That's what I found so far with about a 1/2-hour quick test. Appreciate findings of others be posted here also!!!!!

Thank you so much, version 2 is working awsome on my computer actually posting from it now. I haven't really seen any speed difference between this and the official 525 which I was using before. Also my wireless works right out the box on this one and see's my ethernet card which also works none of which the official 525 does. Had no problems with sound after I turned up all the volumes in full screen, actually sounds a lot louder than the official 525. Desktop icons do not need to be edited manually, just go to the Desksetup Templates and choose manual then let x restart then reselect Traditional and let it reset again and all icons will be in English.
Edit: wuxiandianzi I Forgot to ask, is there a devx for your iso?

PAE ? |
|
wuxiandianzi 'You're welcome!"
Could you please explain PAE... what it is what it does?
Also, do you plan to expand this Kernel to maybe some other Puppy versions, say like Spup-100 ? I would like to see that!

sszindian:
PAE means Physical Address Extension.
It will support more than 4G memory in x86-32 of linux.

Sound |
|
Had some more time to play with 3-2 and yes... now have the sound working just fine!
So far all seems to work as with official 525 NOW...........
NOW........ NOW.......
Could you please take a little time and explain EXACTLY the advantage of the 2.6.38.3-2 kernel over the the standard older kernel currently in official 525?
AND.... AND......
Just what advantage does it have on current 525 Puppy and possibly future Puppy's?
I am sure a lot of viewers would be interested to know such!!!!
'Thanks'
