How do I enable the "multimedia" keys?

#1 Post by Kiran »

Hi all,

I'm using GrafPup 102 and I would like to know how to map the extra keys that come with "multimedia" keyboards. You know, the key's right at the top, like Internet, Email, etc.

I've used "xbindkeys" to map the "windows keys," but xbindkeys does not seem to recognise the multimedia keys.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
KJ

Thanks rarsa,

However I'm using GrafPup 102 and it doesn't seem to have the important "xev"

Code: Select all

bash: xev: command not found
Any ideas on how to get it on GrafPup?

Thanks,
KJ

Okay, xev is sorted out in GrafPup103b.

I've followed the instructions contained in the links posted by rarsa.

The question now is, why doesn't it work?

When I press those buttons after configuring them, no action is performed.

So how do I get the WWW button to open Firefox for example?

Thanks,
KJ

Okay after using xev and making a custom keymap, I've loaded "xbindkeys."

With xbindkeys I've set the WWW and email buttons to open Firefox and Thunderbird respectively.

That was the easy part, but how do I set the "back" and "forward" buttons to make Firefox go back or forward a page?

Same thing with the volume keys.

Any ideas?
