Puppy Lupen- K 2.6.38.4.....Compiz-Fusion/Emerald/Cairo-dock

#1 Post by puppyluvr »

:D Hello,
@EDIT: Updated, now using Compiz...5/30/11
@Video Here
@And Here

Built from Woof, using kernel 2.6.38.4..
Designed for / built on a Compaq CQ-56 laptop..
Should work OOTB for Intel graphics...
NVIDIA / ATI users will need to install glx drivers for Compiz to work....
Recommended for higher end machines w/>512mb ram or swap.

Get it here.. Username puppy Password linux
http://puppylinuxstuff.meownplanet.net/ ... en-0.1.iso
md5sum cb997b5377257b812b460eae82a2d708 Lupen-0.1.iso
274mb...
Built from Woof, and MultiPup!!
Defaults to Compiz if GLX is present...
If it defaults to Openbox, install the high performance driver for your video card, and restart x. with "startx xfce4"
This is basically a clone of my desktop, built with parts of Woof, EZWoof-525, and MultiPup
Includes:
Compiz-Fusion
Emerald theme manager
Firefox 4.0.1
Cairo-dock / GLX-dock
xcompmgr
Gimp 2.6.10
Xvidcap
X-Toys
MultiPup
Pwidgets
PupXscreensaver 5.13
XorgHigh Intel drivers
Fixed dpkg utilities.. unpack .debs etc...

Some themes/settings by me... 8)

Issues:
 First... Turn off the pinboard... in a terminal enter
rox -p=
Then D/L and unpack the roxfix tarball attached to /root/Startup..

Leftover "Nightly" icon on dock next to Firefox...remove it.. drag `n drop onto the desktop..poof!!

This kernel has USB boot problems, works fine for me but reports of problems have arisen with 2.6.38.4...new build should correct that..

On first boot, xorg halts at "ignore / command line" ...
If you are using Intel graphics, click ignore, otherwise click command line and type "xorgwizard"...
(Weather and wireless are my configurations, reset to your own....)
Probably unstable..
At your own risk etc... :D
If anyone tries it, let me know....
Jay....

Puppy Lupu-539 Kernel 2.6.38.4

#4 Post by Billtoo »

I did a frugal install by mounting your Lupu-539-beta3.iso
and copying the files to a pup539 directory, then taking the files in
the Lupu-539-beta3 folder within the pup539 directory to a puppy539
folder that I made and then running grub4dos.
Didn't want to burn a disk.
Anyhow it worked :)

Tue 17 May 2011 Operating System: Lucid Puppy-539 Linux 2.6.38.4

:D Hello,
Love the BG.. :D
To get rid of the black box around cairo-dock, right click the dock,
Cairo-Dock / configure/ system / composition / use fake transparency...
And under visibility, you can tell it to hide / stay below etc....
In Openbox it stays below fine, in Jwm with compositing, it tends to stay on top...
But Jwm does composite great...in xinit.rc is the xcompmgr line, around 128, that sets transparency....

Are you on wireless???
Did the ATI graphics work OOTB??, or did you have to install a driver...????
I see it recognized both cores..
Did it bark on first boot up???

Yea, I`m more questions than answers...

Puppyluvr. I have made lupe22 kernel. I will upload it later today. It has some important fixes, most important is aufs-allow-sfs-as-branch patch. Also the usb section has been remodified.
It is optimized for core 2 and up, so it is for newer hw especially.

Jay...
I was on the wired network originally but after seeing your post I unplugged that and plugged in a linksys usb adaptor and after playing around with that for a few minutes I'm connected using the wireless network.
The ati graphics worked ootb.
There is a problem with sound, retrovol isn't working but alsamixer is so I do have sound.
I turned off cairo dock, I'll try your solution in the morning, 1:55 am here now.

A very confusing name.
Latest lupu/lucid was 5.2.5
The 539 would indicate a frog leep.

What if work in the same line will be done in the future and 5.25 steadily goes to 539?

I think this kind of naming should be avoided.

:D Hello,
Yes, I agree...Since the next Puppy might be 5.3, it was supposed to be named 5.29...At first it was...
But a typo during Woof....and well....
No matter, as on the next built, it will get a name, and I will renumber it then...

Lupen is what I have in mind...
Lu-p-en...Lucid + Puppy + Enlightenment..
I have compiled the latest E-16 and am testing integrating it into this Pup, along with GLX-dock and xcompmgr...
It isnt stable yet, but when they all work together, its a beauty!!!

The first release was to test 2.6.38.4 and xcompmgr, this one for Cairo-dock, next release will include E-16...Then maybe I`ll be satisfied...

Hi there! :)

wow that one does look and work a bit different. What is that Cairo thing you talk about? Anyway it did work on my Acer D250 and looks cool kind of.

That everything explodes and goes up in smoke is kind of imprssive and then get a bit childish but who am I to complain me being the most naive we have here at the forum. :)

So apart from being your brain child what is it about it that you like best.

Is there anything particular you want me to test. Everything did work as far as I know. Firefox instead of SeaMonkey is a big improvement indeed.

I don't remember now some hours has gone since I tested it. Was Flash built in from scratch.

Hahah the name Lupen 539 surpriced me too. Btu I see you have changed the title now to Puppy Lupen and telling which kernel it is.

Edit oh I forgot to tell you that this is the first time me had the famous muted audio but Retrovol repaired it. If it is important I can test it again tomorrow.

Lupe22 kernel is uploaded. See Ice Puppy first page. It looks promising. And it has that important patch added.

:D Hello,
Cool... 8)
And by the dotconfig it looks you have enabled everything but the Out house sink...
Thanks for the ndiswrapper module as well...That thing, and rt5390 refuse to compile properly for me...
BTW, will things Ive compiled against lupe17 work the same for lupe22, since they are both 2.6.38.4??? Or do I need to recompile...I already D/L the lupe22 sources...

I dont think so. I have made so many changes and repatched the kernel also.

Ndiswrapper from svn compiles fine, known trick.

I dont know if this works, it needed really a lot source patching.

It is for lupe22 kernel. Reboot is surely needed after installing this monster.

:D Hello,
@Nooby..
Until this point, it was just a test of the new kernel against 5.25, hence why it remained in the "new kernel testing" thread...
Using Woof and pemasus kernels, I built a Lupu, an Spup, and a T2pup..
All of them worked, but the ubuntu packages gave me a very solid base...So I kept building on Lupu...As it went along, I compiled everything for it...FF 4.0.1, E-16, etc, and am going to recompile everything I can, against the new kernel, for this Pup.. As I used it, it grew on me...so much so, I decided to release it... (psss...If all goes well, it will be the new Buddapup...I promised someone not to build a Buddapup for a while, but its been a really long while, over 2 years...so I think its time....but shhhh..LOL..)

I have to write a lot of "switching" scripts, and make a few mods, to make xcompmgr and E16 and GLX-dock and Openbox and Jwm get along...

BTW, the E16 I just built, the newest one, is in my meownplanet dir in my sig..it is a tarball with 1 pet and 1 deb...I combined e16, e16menu, e16data, and 4 themes into 1 pet, and the deb is imlib2, which Im gonna compile from source, as the current pet didnt work, and undeb left me one file short...
I pretty much want to compile every part on this dog I can..

Yes, testing...
Alsamixer
Retrovol
USB drives/wireless/etc...
Watch your cpu usage over reboots, cairo-dock has given me some trouble, but its the ubuntu version, I havent compiled it yet against this Pup..
See how gl works with cairo-dock, and also try the nongl one two..
Both are in the menu....
Built for intel...need testing elsewhere...Im down to 1 machine atm...
Someone try pemasus nvidia pets a on this...
