xephem - celestial navigation, satellite tracking

#1 Post by daw »

I recently found an RPM for xephem 3.7.1:

http://loke.as.arizona.edu/~ckulesa/xephem/

Using UNRPM with pup2, and moving a couple files to the right directories, I got xephem up and running. Very nice program! Useful for astronomy, satellite tracking, and celestial navigation. Google xephem, elwood downey, and clear sky institute.

http://www.clearskyinstitute.com/xephem/download.html
SOURCE for 3.7.5 → installed 40 MB
compiled quite nice on dpup-008
with
http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/groff-base
for missing nroff command
and
http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/i386/libxp6
libXp needed an additional symlink /usr/lib/libXp.so → /usr/lib/libXp.so.6

For those too lazy or having not the time to compile

Downloadlink Page :

xephem-binary-3.7.5-RC11

[Edit : for backwardscompatibility added a pet to the page that was compiled on Puppy 430 , needed http://packages.debian.org/lenny/x11proto-print-dev ]

SeaMonkey > ATTENTION ! Please use right click > Save Link Target As... if .pets show off as ASCII text inside the Browser Tab !

The .pet is 21 MB large and the server is running sometimes 100KB/s, 200KB/s and 300KB/s.

It seems that everything is running fine execpt it would be nice to have the scrollwheel inside the windows enabled.

Don't forget to go to Preferences > Save... to save the local settings.

Enjoy !

I'm still running xephem under 525. Remains a great program!
