US keyboard needs remapping

#1 Post by markskerr »

Sevreal key are not mapped correctly for the US keyboard
When I press the "A" key I get a "Q", the "M" key gives me a ","
Also the W and Z keys are reversed. Is there a way to remap the
keyboard.

Thanks,

I have a recurring problem with the ' and " keys. In some applications the key needs to be hit twice (the first hit rings the bell), and then I get a funny-looking character.

Thanks,
The "A" and "Q" thing smells to me of the AZERTY and QWERTY difference (the first six keys on the top left).
Try selecting AZERTY in the list when booting (it's the first one).

I think you can set that from the menu, too.
Have a german version here, in english it should be
Setup -keyboard/Mouse - Wizard.

If that does not help, there are other ways, but try this first.

If you have trouble with Puppys inbuilt keyboard-support, there is an older "fallback" available.
I used it with success in older versions of Puppy, when german keyboards were not supported yet.

Was also having problems with quote marks and apostrophes; they'd come out funny-looking or not at all. Found a dotupu fix via MU's link:

I guess try a few until it comes out right.
