Thinkpad 600x hangs on initrd.gz

Hi,

I have an old Thinkpad 600x with W98 installed. I am trying to get it to boot off a Puppy 2 live CD with no luck. The machine hangs on initrd.gz. The machine has plenty of disk space and memory and the live CD works/loads with other machines.

I'd appreciate any suggestions as to what I have to do to get the machine working.
