In Puppy 4.2.1, I noticed I could right-click on a .sfs module and could load and use it without even having a pupsave file. I believe that was a script. Why didn't they ever bring that over to lucid-pup? Is there such a script actually available for LucidPup? I think that would be very convenient if there were.

That script then could be built in? Then one don't need a pupsave to do it.
I know very little about linux but I fail to see why it would need a pupsave?
You don't need a pupsave to install a pet so why would it be needed to click on a sfs?
Do you remember if that was something then that only work in Full install?
I mean what is it about frugal install that makes it important to mention it in relation to sfs files?
This not in any way a criticism I only am curious on how the frugal and the pupsave relates to sfs files.
We had a thread today about loading sfs files. Beem gave a good link to a program that worked for full installs. Could that be the program you talk about?

goingnuts made 'otf_sfs', which works in 4.2, and shinobar made 'sfsload' which supposedly works in all pups, but it wont work in mine (a 4.2 puplet).. I use goingnuts 'otf_sfs' - it is in his pUpnGo thread, and it even works from the terminal... I had to add the right click option myself though...
If you want me to package up what I am using, just let me know.

The Dev of 421 most likely love that program or realized that it is a wanted feature? But sadly when seaside made a thread about his SFS-Exec then almost none cared about it.
So there are many such sfs loaders. Seaside use it without a safe file. He even warn for having one.

Besides topic though, but did I read well somewhere that you had
SAVE or DO NOT SAVE
going ?
If so, could you also point to, or provide a pet for this (I am in mainly lupu's). For Shino's "pupsaveconfig" does not work in every Puppy. You once provided me some lines for this issue unfortunately cannot get it to work. For even though it ECHOED "session NOT saved" it WAS saved nonetheless.

Hi
Have a look at JRB's sfs_tzx loader, seems to work very well in most
4.xx and 5.xx series puppy's.
Also works well in fatdog64.

Ray that is true but how does that one take care of the not saving to the savefile?
Nancy, seems different puppies take care of saving differently. I remember that we had several threads about not saving. So it works in some but not for the one you want it to work?
One would need to know then how to remaster that one so it behave as the others do?
I remember vaguely one guy who had a script for automatic back up of save file. He renamed the save file so it had a time stamp on it.
A bit like you described only him had it in a script that did it automatically.
But he had a feature that if something bad happens he could restore by stopping from saving and then replace the faulty save with one from the five or so save copies?
So that stopping of saving then only worked in the puppy he used most likely? So one would need to find that thread and look for what puppy it was supposed to work on. And learn from that script what it do to stop saving and then ask a dev of the puppy you use how you can implement that one?

@Pupgeek,
I've compiled modules, in p412 without a save file, using Shinobar's Sfs_load to load the devx & kernel source sfs files. Definitely works fine with lucid pups as well.

When one use Shinobar's Sfs_load which is a good app but I wonder.
Does not changes one do in that app get saved to the puppy save file?
Yes I know it is without pupsave but if one have one?
I ask because we have been asked about how one avoid saving when one have a savefile.
