Install to HD, boot up problem

#1 Post by granduke »

I've installed 2.0 to my HD. During boot up I get:

/usr/X11R6/bin/xwin:line 29: /tmp/kbdext layout.txt: Input/ouput error

This message repeats itself indefinately.
Any ideas?
thanks.

Sounds like it could be a hard drive problem.

Try unplugging the hard drive and reconnecting it, also unplug and reconnect the cable from the mother board.

Hmm interesting, after failing the logon process a few times. I again booted from the CD. That seems to have cleared the HD boot problem. It loads fine now for the last 5 times I tested it.
You're right it might be a hard drive problem. I'm running Sprinrite on it now to catch any developing failures.

thanks for your reply.

My hard drive boots are still working good. Somehow booting from CD once cleared something up.
Now I hope I wont have trouble installing Skype and Hamachi and VNC client runs good. Then my old laptop not used in 5 years will have a second life. :)

If you have not booted the machine for 5 yrs I am not supprised that the hard drive took a while to free up.
