Polarpup-005 with Qt4-4.8.0 and Gstreamer libs inbuild Subject description: 2.6.39-3 kernel intel atom optimized, 18.8 woof build |
|
Polarpup introduces QT 4.8.0 libs included Puppy. Now Polarpup has also gstreamer libs inbuild. Polarpup-005 has also new 2.6.39-3 kernel.
Polarpup-005 has been made using 18.8.2011 woof so it has boot time usb detection fixed.
First multimedia-music apps using Gstreamer are Clementine, Minitunes and Qmmp.
Kernel is 2.6.39-3. It is intel atom optimized and no highmem+pae so that it would be as compatible as possible for old and new hardware. Main target is somewhat newer hardware and laptops.
ISA cards and slots are also supported.
Polarpup-005 has been uploaded. The ISO size has reduced to the 218 Mb due to xz compression. Using 18.8 woof and updates through it.
Firefox 6.0, Webrender and Lightweight2 browsers, Umplayer 0.97-svn, which has working Youtube searching API parser, Gnome-Mplayer and Gecko-mediaplayer 1.05b1, Pupradio 0.11, Feff (Front end for Ffmpeg) added, Pidgin 2.10, Radkys PupApplications updated to the latest. Great Sysinfobox2, Right clicks updated using don570 great pet as model.
Themes changed and reduced somewhat, Jwm themes more redundant. Wallpapers changed somewhat. Pnethood, Pprocess, Precord, Guvcview also updated. Some other updates also.
For multimedia experience, Gimp, Fotoxx, Geeqie, Minitunes, Clementine, Deadbeef, Qmmp, Handbrake still included. Only Smplayer removed, it has same core as Umplayer.
Download and enjoy.http://smokey01.com/pemasu/Polarpup-005/
Qt4 applications pet repo has more Qt4 applications to test and use. I will update that repo, when I find more nice apps.
Run in console: #qtconfig
You get possiblity to select gtk style and change font to bigger one like Deja Vu Sans or Arial 12 -14. Then save the configuration from the upper left corner. It affects to all Qt applications.
Distro have also many applications from IcePuppy/SnowPuppy/Midnight Sun Pup in good and bad.
Gimp, Deadbeef, Umplayer, Firefox, Fotoxx with full extra supporting apps, Clementine, Qmmp, Minitunes, Handbrake, Gnome-Mplayer and a lot other stuff included.
And of course Pidgin, Xchat, Transmission.
Latest updates: Pmusic 1.92, PupApps, Pupcontrol and Menumaker.
Gnome-commander has been added.
Pixmaps has been updated using Tman's uploaded package.
Alsamixer menu entry added.
Broadcom hybrid wl driver, ndiswrapper driver and acpi_call are included. Some new firmwares and udev rules.
If you want Winamp like experience, test Qmmp, but download Qmmp-skins from the Qt4 pets repo. The default outlook reminds me of Soviet Union times. I have travelled through whole Soviet Union up to Siberia so I know what I speak of.
Extra Qt4 apps using Gstreamer:
YaRock and Cuberok are in Qt4 pets folder.
Libre Office 3.4.1 fixed as pet and sfs:

Java is conditionally needed for Libre Office 3.4.1:

Dave S informed: If you load Libre Office Writer WITHOUT Java, it nags about six times as it loads, then crashes. Thereafter it loads just fine as does Scalc. Sbase totally needs Java though.

Dear Pemasu, do you have compiled Qt4 statically? static qt4 libs help to build qt4 static apps you can use also where (like in Puppy 3.01) you are unable to build qt4 libs (in puppy 3.01 devx, containing gcc 4.1.2, it is not possible to build qt4, due to tool old compiler version)

Dingo. Sorry, no. I havent compiled Qt4 statically, but I could-might do that also in the future. I am quite newbie when it comes to the Qt4 and it didnt come to my mind to compile them also statically for other usage. It surely would have benefit puppy community. Sorry about that.
My knowledge is based of these last weeks with compiling, testing and reading forum info of Qt4.

qt4 non-static are good for people having already qt4, they produce smaller executable, since have not the qt libs attached in a single file, but also statically can be useful. People unable to compile qt4 (or install in their environment) can use your live CD to build static apps that can then run in any other Puppy version

Dingo. That is why I didnt even thought about compiling statically. Having Qt4 already in distro was my focus and so creating much smaller apps. As I have done and also collected Barry kaulers and Ttuuxxx dynamically linked Qt4 apps to my distro.

pemasu, your ISO is quite big, 260MB.
Does it mean it includes already the pets, or should they be downloaded/installed separately?

Yes, it has those listed qt4 apps and qt4 libs already. Only VLC, Musescore and LMMS needs to be installed separately. VLC plays mp4 movies in separate SDL YUV window and I didnt like that. So there is my compiled SMplayer and UMplayer which plays formats in same window where are options menus also. Thats how I want mediaplayer to work.
So I didnt include this new VLC to the build even though it works with my Qt4 libs.
It has also most IcePuppy/Snowpuppy familiar apps included. Pidgin, Xchat, Transmission, several image viewers, Gimp, Deadbeef, and 2 web browsers.

Polarpup-001 with Qt4-4.8.0 libs inbuild Subject description: It is FAST |

This release runs very fast with the only problem so far is QtWeb will not work for internet TV. You can not cut and paste with the browser. With just regular internet browsing it is fine.
It booted the first time it was run on this system. The CPU on this system does not like a few linux releases

Thank you of your feedback. I noticed some bugs which I have fixed. Main thing was that I compiled the latest guvcview and I forgot some libs it needs. I will reupload Polarpup-001 now.

Remind qtconfig usage. Run in console: #qtconfig
You get possiblity to select gtk style and change font to bigger one like Deja Vu Sans or Arial 12. Then save the configuration from the upper left corner. It affects to all Qt applications.
