How to use OOo4Kids in Puppy, without installing Sub_title: Usage of OOo4Kids_XO in PuppyLinux |
|
Hi
If you wish to run OOo4Kids_1.2 on PuppyLinux, without performing any installation, you can use the XO package, able to run "out of the box" on any kernel 2.6 linux just after unzipping.
( OOo4Kids is an office suite especially designed for 7-12 years by education.openoffice project, based on OOo3, but very lighter and faster)
1 Download the archive from http://ftp.educoo.org/home/OOo4Kids/XO/1.2/en-US/
in a folder in your root home, example /root/OOo4Kids12
2 Rename it ooo4kids1.2_r1205_en-us.xo -> ooo4kids1.2_r1205_en-us.zip
3 Unzip it in the same folder
4 Enter in the folder / ... / OOo4Kids.activity / bin /
5 Run the script sugarOOo4Kids
6 Enjoy !
7 You can create a link if you want,
because this way doesn't provide menu entries, nor file association.
FYI, it runs perfectly on the french version "Toutoulinux" 412 retro, on a PIII 600 MHz + 128Mo ram, and i use it daily to work.
Hope this will be useful
Sincerely
Fred Juan DIAZ

Oh man, I should have seen this before!
I just uploaded an 82MB sfs with the english version of ooo4kids-1.2 that I made for XOpup (the difficult way ) here: http://www.datafilehost.com/download-86604a0b.html -new version
(md5sum: ad2fb1ce492f546a98fde07d57ebe1d1)
The sfs should work with Puppy5x and probably others.
Oh well,
Looks nice in XOpup at least

Hi
Thank you for your work !
It isn't wasted work, it will be useful because I think that a sfs file is cleaner (from the point of view of the location of files) and it will intesters those they want to remaster their own Live CD (i didn't try to do it with an xo "pseudo-install" but i'm not sure it would work well)
I will test your archive on my french puppy (toutou)

You may want to get the new version in the above post (the one with md5sum ad2fb1ce492f546a98fde07d57ebe1d1) that has some usability improvements.

My apologies
Nearly a year since you posted the pet, mavrothal - and I'veonly just spotted it, finally having a bit of time to construct a puppy environment for kids (using sc0ttman's Akita8, a Wary/Puppy4.20 hybrid).
Thank You!
and, as ever, a big cheer to ASRI éducation
