Hi stefeug

I have been trying to get puppy 2 to print with some success. I would suggest that you take a look at this thread on the Forum---

http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?t=597

This is a long thread about all kinds of things in Puppy and is very useful. About half way down the page, is an area entitled Hardware Problems and under that title it talks about printing with Puppy. Take a look at that information especially the 1st page and page 13 or 14 of the thread entitled Printing with CUPS (Finally there).

Let us know if you have trouble, and we will try to guide you.

Thank you Dewdrop,
still I am in a studying process of the indicated links, but meantime what I did: I succed to install the linux driver offered by samsung. The setup.sh script didnt worked, but there was another one there autorun.sh that worked. I installed, everything was ok, no error message, even it told me that the installation is finished (well), but after installing this driver, you have to choose it (with a programm or linux-config) to establish your priner. At this step I dont know how to continue, as I dont have a configuration tool. The printer is installed indeed where samsung is saying at usr/local/linuxprinter but i dont know how to choose it and make it default or which file need to be edited to put this printer there?

Below is the text of readme file from the driver package, maybe it gives you an idea!

Thank you!

Linux Printing Package Release Candidate
----------------------------------------

The Linux Printer Package is an integrated suite of utilities for the Linux
operating system, allowing you to configure and manage Linux laser printers
in a user-friendly way.

SUPPORTED CONFIGURATIONS
------------------------

- Linux distributions : Redhat 6.x, Mandrake 7.x, SuSE 6.x, Debian 2.2,
Caldera OpenLinux 3.x, TurboLinux, Slackware 7.x, Linux/PPC, Yellow Dog,
and newer versions.
- Linux kernel 2.2 and up
- GNU Libc version 2.1 and up

Requirements :
- GTK+ 1.2 libraries ; these usually come with the GNOME desktop environment,
but if your distribution didn't install those by default, you will need to
install them before you can use the graphical tools from this package.
- A working Ghostscript installation
- CUPS 1.1.x is the preferred printing system for this package, but the
Linux Package will accommodate any other printing system based on LPD.
CUPS 1.1.14 packages are provided as a convenience with this program, and can
be installed or upgraded from the installer. However, users of Debian and
Slackware distributions should make sure they have an active printing system
(such as LPD) before proceeding with the installation.

INSTALLATION
------------

You need to be logged in as the super-user (root) to be able to install this
package.

- Run the 'setup.sh' script on the CDROM to launch the installation program,
if the installer didn't start automatically upon insertion of the CDROM in
your drive.

- You may choose either the "Recommended" or "Expert" types of installation.
"Recommended" is fully automated and won't require any interaction on your
part. It will install the product under /usr/local/linuxprinter.
The "Expert" installation allows you to fine-tune these settings and choose
where the package will be installed.

- Once the installation is done, you will be offered the option to start the
Configuration Tool, which allows to install and configure new Linux printers
into your Linux system.

- The configuration tool can later be launched by using the 'linux-config'
command, or through the menu item that may have been added to your Gnome / KDE
menus.

GETTING MORE HELP
-----------------

Complete Online help is available through the configuration tool. Click on the
"Help" button in the dialogs.

UNINSTALLATION
--------------

To remove this package, you can use the 'linux-uninstall' command, or choose
"Uninstall" in the File menu from the Configuration Tool.

Need help with Samsung ML 1610 printer driver

#4 Post by dewdrop »

Hi stefeug,

I have edited this post since it talked most about getting printing to work using Puppy1.xx instead of Puppy2.

I apoligize for giving you some information that was unnecessary for your situation.

I'm in the process of gathering informatiion that may be of help as you try to get your printer to work with Puppy2 Multisession.

Hopefully, I will have a step-by-step instruction for you to try when you return on Saturday.

Hi Dewdrop,
I tried few times the described procedure but unfortunatelly it didnt worked for me! (at the installation I received few error messages ...).
What I discovered is that the driver offered by samsung it contains also the cups 1.1.4 files and in expert mode it can be installed. at the same time it contans another printing system which is equivalent to cups and you can choose to install that one. also contain the ppd driver for the printer. You can even choose where to install all this. Default is in usr/local/linuxprinter, but this can be changed. I am trying to concentrate more on this and to customize a file or more in puppy to give this paths, so like this the driver and printing will work.
Can anybody tell me how the things are working in puppy with the printing? Maybe I can change something in a file to make it to work!
Thank you for everything!
