XWindows do not start

#1 Post by Alex »

I've downloaded the Graphpup image, burned it from CD and...
nothing. Black screen. XWindows does not start, however the console
is avallable. It shuts down succesfully, and that's all.
Manual start of X does nothing - same black screen.

type
xorgwizard

Try different settings in the wizard.
If it still fails, choose the fallback-option "xvesa".
If X starts with xvesa, add /var/log/Xorg.0.log as an attachment to the forum, so that we can try to find out, why x.org will not work.

Alas.No luck.

xorgwizard after selecting any mode, says :

"No such file or dir " several times
then
"stack underflow" several times
then
"cannot open screen 0"
then
"process killed"

Xvesa says :
"Interrupt pointer doesn't point at ROM" several times
"Fatal server error"
"no screens found"
"segmentation error"

and creates no /var/log/Xorg.0.log file

Perhaps it would help if we know:

1. What kind of computer are you using? Has it a Windows OS? Is the disk drive formatted FAT32 or NTFS? What video adapter?

2. Exactly what steps did you take to burn the image to the CD?
