Dear Jemimah,
Thanks for putting me on to this one. Since I still use 3.01 on 2 of 3 machines, I took down the source and compiled it (excluded the exif2 stuff), and it works just fine. I was simply too lazy to download the exif2 headers. If anybody needs the 3.01 binary, please let me know.
With kind regards,
vovchik

newer version of lib in /usr/lib just add a symlink
in console mode (urxvt)
#cd /usr/lib
# ls -al libexiv2*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2011-04-02 04:10 libexiv2.so -> libexiv2.so.6.0.0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2011-04-02 04:10 libexiv2.so.6 -> libexiv2.so.6.0.0
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1703420 2011-04-02 04:16 libexiv2.so.6.0.0
#ln -s libexiv2.so.6.0.0 libexiv2.so.2
it now fail a bit further... when I navigate thru directories
# geeqie &
[1] 14402
# geeqie: symbol lookup error: geeqie: undefined symbol: _ZN5Exiv28ExifDataC1Ev
#

I'm running p525 right now, installed the geeqie .pet, & it runs without error.
Because the symlink, for libexiv2.so.2, was already there, I wonder if, somehow,
you've corrupted your p525 install? Have you a backup pupsave file?

I just installed Jemimah's pet, from above. As I said, libexiv2.so already exists, within lupu_525.sfs, so I wonder whether your geeqie propblems are related to some corruption of the file system.
Try booting a pup_525 CD/DVD into RAM, install the geeqie .pet & see if it works OK.[/b]

muggins:
retried with iso from nluug.nl (previous test wher with ibiblio.org iso) checked the md5checksum ok
live-CD install on another computer (sfs in RAM)
install
1) firefox
2) geequie
same thing again
libexiv2.so does exist but need libexiv2.so.2
what have you installed before trying geeqie

I'm getting the same error as mimmo, muggins. Symbol lookup error.
I'm using Lucid 5.1 and the symlinks already exist. Any other ideas? Program runs for me but crashes when I try to select any image in my directory. The directory exists outside the pupsave file, so I hope that's not the problem.[/quote]

mimmo,
my apologies...you were right in that it was segfaulting, due to incompatible libexiv2, with lupu pups. Find attached a version compiled on p520.
@WhoDo, it should be ok with 511 also.

Thanks, muggins. Very much appreciated. I'll try it and keep my fingers crossed. If it works I can dump wine and faststone viewer (the only reason I use wine - pity it's not ported to Linux). Thanks again, mate.
Edit: Worked like a charm! Woohoo! Even lets me view RAW files in large size and check EXIF data on them. Finally, no more wine! Thanks, muggins!
