Well. LibreOffice works without it also. Just accept those 6 errors and then start again. Of course base wont work without it.
Latest java has been packaged by Ttuuxxx. I think you will find it from additional software section. You could try his latest masterpiece. If is working in dpup, as I believe, there is no need to reinvent the wheel.
By the way. 8-bit has announced great system-info tool. It also showed the lack of symlink from latest gtkdialog3 to gtkdialog. It also needs symlink from yad to zenity.
So. if you try it, make symlink from /usr/sbin/gtkdialog3 to /usr/sbin/gtkdialog and /usr/bin/yad to /usr/bin/zenity.
These will be included in next version. I noticed that lack of gtkdialog symlink earlier but now I know why it should be there. Certain great applications need it.

And I seem to have forgotten to make symlink DOTdesktop for base. So it does not show in menu.
Well you get it when launching main LibreOffice 3.4 menu entry. I included it in 2 locations.
Another reupload soon.....

I now have java and all the needed gstreamer packages installed. I am going to test the audio in LO impress to see if everything has been satisfactory or not. Will be back here to post the result.
pemasu,
Exprimo and Polar-Pup both fail to find installation files on slow-to-start CD drives. They stop "searching for puppy files" before a slow CD is spooled up to read speed.
Snow and Ice puppies have an extra bit of nap time built in to pause their searches while slow CDs work up to speed, so they load OK. I suspect the extra pause was taken out to improve start-up speed.
Can the pause be scripted as a pfix option? Slow-starting, often USB, disk systems could use the option, while faster-starting CDs and frugal installs with their main-sfs files on the HD could go on without waiting.
It's mostly the new to puppy and live-cd installers who meet the problem. Most regular frugal puppers know they can pre-plant the main-sfs on the HD so it can be found.

G'day pemasu,
Thank you for replying to my plea on another Dpup-squeeze thread regarding my inability to get the correct geometry graphics on my 1600x900 monitor with any dpup while lucid pups are now all perfect with the proprietary ATI Catalyst driver/pet.
I have now followed your instructions (above, p16 in this thread) using dpup exprimo 5.X.1 and the indicated ati pet (somewhat confusing initially to me as it has lucid in its file name?).
The steps I took were:
1) Installed the ati pet to this frugal dpup-exprimo-5X1 which had shown only squeezed-out 1280x1024 vesa graphics and the very short xorg.conf file in /etc/X11. No change when the ATI pet installed and the menu entry for it just reported an initialisation error when clicked.
2) went to the console and entered aticonfig --initial. Got message about extra files in /etc/X11
3) ran the xorgwizard - and chose the now listed fglrx driver
4) restarted X but still only 1280x1024 (BK's regenerating xorg.conf taking over again?)
5) went to /etc/X11 and after looking at the old and new xorg.conf.xxx files, deleted the short and imperfect xorg.conf and copied the newly created xorg.conf.prev as the new xorg.conf.
6) restarted X from the shut-down menu and SUCCESS (or as the tri-lingual pemasu had said viola!!! ). A dpup with 1600x900 graphics on my monitor.
7) restarted X again, and the graphics were still good.
8.) tried the ATI Catalyst Control Centre and now it worked too (no error box).
9) got really brave, and rebooted the computer, picked my dpupsqueeze5x1 from the puppy.lst menu (the subdirectory in menu.lst that has all my frugals listed) and the 1600x900 graphics were still there.
And this is where I'm posting from.
Question: Will the ati-11.7-k2.6.39.3-lupe28.pet work its magic on earlier dpups like 484 and 485, and the other squeezed pups I've accumulated which may not have the same kernel? I'll try anyway, of course.
So thank you (and merci and - I don't know the Finnish for "thanks mate"), pemasu, for your fixing of my ATI graphics dpup problem.
David S.

G'day again,
This time from a Full Dpup Exprimo 5.X.1 install, with correctly proportioned icons and sharp graphics on a 1600x900 monitor from a Radeon HD5450 card, by using the ati-11.7-k2.6.39.3-lupe28.pet.
As before, the initial install could only provide a 1280x1024 vesa set up - the default wizard radeon driver did nothing.
Ran the ati pet which gave the ATI Catalyst menu entries but an error box when trying to execute the ATI Catalyst Control Centre.
Did the console>aticonfig --initial step which reported a new xorg.conf set-up. This new xorg.conf had the proper-looking lines about the fglrx driver.
Restarted X from the Shut-down menu
And got the 1600x900 graphics! (Just like when fixing the lucid Pups on this desktop set-up where I hadn't needed the aticonfig --initial step).
And rebooting did not lose the good graphics.
Isn't life wonderful (apart from podagra in my right toe).

Drivers are kernel specific so the ati-11.7-k2.6.39.3-lupe28.pet will only work with the 2.6.39.3 kernel.davids45 wrote: Question: Will the ati-11.7-k2.6.39.3-lupe28.pet work its magic on earlier dpups like 484 and 485, and the other squeezed pups I've accumulated which may not have the same kernel?
Things would be much easier if drivers would work with any kernel though.
Speaking of Java, I made a java.sfs a while back for those that did not want to actually install it

Thank you of your feedbacks.
davids45 report of getting his Ati graphics working warms me most. That Ati Catalyst driver package works only with my lupe28 2.6.39.3 kernels. That kernel is close copy of Barrys recent 2.6.3.9.3 kernel, vgaswitcheroo, PAE and kernel debugfs taken out. Why so. PAE causes instability with older intel Pentium comps, even non booting, Vgaswitcheroo does not work with all ATI - intel dual graphics and lead with my graphics to kernel panic ( known and reported bug).
Iguleder has compiled and already recompiled his 2.6.39.3 kernel. It is brand new. Reports of its stability is needed. My kernel has been already in Polarpup 003 and MNS Office Edition, Nvidia and ATI graphics drivers compile with it ok.
I would like to see same kernel in all dpups so that compiled extra third party drivers are usable in all them.
But as I have posted in first page. This is still experimental build eventhough maturing.....
CLAM01. I think that your found problem is due to new kernels behavior and init script. Barry posted something about slow older usb 1.0 delay removal by linus. I dont know if there has been done something to the old cd drives also. But....your report is something that Barry Kauler should know. Would you like to report that to Barrys blog or PM him. Barry reads his forum PM messages even though he does not answer actively. But this kind problem is surely something he is interested.
Prolonging the cd drive content detection and booting time files searching time is done through init script. There is no way that I start to tinker with it. It is absolutely job done by Barry Kauler.
Luci devel thread has good example what happens when you use old woof and start to tinker with init script to have same fixes that new woof produces natively. Woof and changes through it is the way I follow.
Marco07. Good news about that java package. I could make a sfs of it so that we have the latest as sfs also. I will upload both to the slowly growing repo.

About sound...
I believe there is a missing option in 10alsa script (/etc/init.d/10alsa). My sound has always been mute on my main box, an nvidia chipset, X2 processor. In next spup (uploading shortly) I am adding these lines:
We'll soon find out if something breaks!
Cheers

G'day,
I have now used the ati-11.7-k2.6.39.3-lupe28.pet with dpupsqueeze5004 to get 1600x900 graphics from the default 1280x1024.
I used this pet with dpup485 and dpup484beta4 (frugals) - and also got 1600x900 graphics from the previously intractable default 1280x1024, although the ATI Catalyst Control Centre doesn't run. In dpup484beta4 (posting from it now) the graphics are reported as 'vesa' by the report-video-glx.pet:
"Sun 7 Aug 2011 Operating System: Lenny Puppy-484 Linux 2.6.30.5
0.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Device 68f9
oem: ATI ATOMBIOS product: CEDAR 01.00
X Server: Xorg Driver: vesa
X.Org version: 1.4.2
dimensions: 1600x900 pixels (443x249 millimeters)
depth of root window: 24 planes
Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5800
Core 0: 3226 1: 3226 MHz"
This result is like I found using the late-kernel lucid-ATI pet - some early kernel Pups (e.g. Puppy 4.2) would respond with the better graphic resolution, even though the Catalyst Control Centre didn't work.
But I'm very happy just to get good graphics off this 1600x900 monitor from all these older Pups.

davids45. Yep. The fglrx kernel module graphics driver wont load. Wrong kernel. But the other framework libs might help still.
Anyway. Stu90 has found that libdrm_radeon was missing in our builds. It will be included to the next version.
Here it is as installable pet if someone wants to try it so that he does not need to install proprietary driver and go through that xorg.conf switching operation.
This pet should enable the radeon driver loading.
