Wow,
Having been only a couple of days away and there are releases passing by.
Installed FRUGAL, Lin'N'Win, the 5.X.1

I did take probe, but didn't get a desktop. report-video told me I got the fbev driver installed for my radeon 7500 graphics controller.

I then did choose radeon.
I did get the desktop, but my keyboard, which was azerty, turned into qwerty.
Like the 5.0.0.2. So no-go for me.
I then chose vesa as in the 5.0.0.2
I got the desktop and the azerty keyboard

Everything working on boot....sound,internet and display.

Looking good here. :)
I've now had all three of my boxes working from the cdrom by adding pfix=ram, nox and setting up video manually before starting xwin.

However, two of the three are still crashing after a frugal install and reboot, i'm still playing with the starting pfix parameters now to see if I can work out where the problem is but i'm beginning to wonder if it's actually a permissions problem.

UPDATE: will install the radeon pet to see if it fixes box2 up. more later.

Defaults for office programs

#283 Post by peebee »

A problem with not including Abiword and Gnumeric is that:

defaultwordprocessor and
defaultspreadsheet

still point to these non-existent programs.

I have successfully added the LibreOffice sfs to my frugal install but there needs to be an easy way to amend the defaultxxxx files to now point to LibreOffice....

I've edited the 2 defaults as follows:

defaultwordprocessor - exec LO-swrite "$@"
defaultspreadsheet - exec LO-scalc "$@"

I guess the icons should also be changed but I can live without that.

Cheers

Because I cant know what people prefer, LibreOffice, Openoffice, Abiword-gnumeric combo, Softmaker etc....

I updated Scottmans great defaults chooser to have LibreOffice 3.4 as choosable defaults changer.

Another package has missing mimes for doc, docx, ppt etc...I dont use LibreOffice draw, so someone using it can give feedback of missing mimes for it and I create them.
The LibreOffice pet has also defaultwordprocessor, defaultspreadsheet and brand new defaultpresentation which changes LibreOffice as default handler. Defaultdraw is not included and is not changed. Defaultmath I didnt create, could be do that also, but I dont know the mime status for it.

Also here is link to Office pets and sfs for those I have packaged.

G'day,

Just to confirm that installing the missing libdrm_radeon into a fresh Dpup Exprimo 5.X.1 produced on my computer the correct 1600x900 resolution.

So thank you to Stu90 for finding what wasn't there, and to pemasu for making what wasn't there into a pet.

This is a smaller and better alternative fix to the proprietary ATI Catalyst pet - I will check if the problem of the black screen/no-graphics on shut-down or prompt is present with the fixed radeon.

And if adding this libdrm_radeon to early Dpups (like dpup484) also fixes their poor graphics on this computer/monitor combination.

Hi Pemasu

Many thanks for such a quick reaction...

I think your model of making the Office package choosable like the browser package is choosable in lupu is a good one.

Perhaps the defaultxxxx files in the iso should point people to the office repository and the Default Chooser until such time as they have installed some Office package either by pet or sfs? Is this possible?

What the iso should not have is defaultxxx files that point to non-existent software I think.

Hope this helps making an excellent pup even better
Cheers

Peebee. I think that I include PPM repo for those Office applications. I have already made that repo and it works in my test build. I will include the updated defaults chooser also. What there should be in defaultXXX file. I probably update them to have pointers to Open Office, LibreOffice, Abiword and Gnumeric but I leave them commented with # so that they are not active, but easily workable by editing the file. Defaults chooser activate them also easily.

Right now I struggle with working ffmpeg-mplayer-gnome-mplayer-gecko-mediaplayer. There is problems because latest versions have severe bugs.

Have you tried making it work with one of the included HP drivers? They are very flexible..............

Hi Pemasu,
made a new build with your kernel this morning, initial impressions seem good 8)

Another thing, Dave reported in the d-lite thread about not being able to download from the puppy-common repo (pfind-4.22.pet) do you have any problems downloading from this repo? i tried changing some stuff but can't get it to work :(

edit: there is a new woof update -
http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=02391
i used it today, i don't think the delayedrun fix is needed anymore - i did get an terminal cp error about rationalizing menus in /tmp during the build process?

edit2: yesterday i installed mplayer - gnome-mplayer - gecko-mediaplayer straight from the debain repos just to see what happened more than anything - they are older version but seem to work ok - playdayz posted some where in the lucid threads a compressed directory with different media files to test but i can for the life of me find it.
cheers.

Stu90. http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/Packag ... n-official is the right location. I believe the DISTRO_PET_REPOS file might have puppylinux instead of that quirky where the pet repo really is.

Wrong location is http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/
Check what you have in your DISTRO_PET_REPOS file

About new woof. I have downloaded but I havent started to configure it for new build yet. Not sure if I have energy to do it this evening. Depends on other things.

PKG_DOCS_PET_REPOS='www.smokey01.com|http://www.smokey01.com/pemasu/packages-puppy-exprimo-official|Packages-puppy-exprimo-official http://www.iguleder.info|http://www.iguleder.info/puppy/dpup/Packages-puppy-dpup-official|Packages-puppy-dpup-official ibiblio.org|http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... 5-official ibiblio.org|http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... y-official ibiblio.org|http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... n-official ibiblio.org|http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... 5-official ibiblio.org|http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... 4-official ibiblio.org|http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... 3-official ibiblio.org|http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... 2-official ibiblio.org|http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... d-official'

PET_REPOS='www.smokey01.com|http://www.smokey01.com/pemasu|Packages-puppy-*-official http://www.iguleder.info|http://www.iguleder.info/puppy/dpup|Packages-puppy-dpup-official|ibiblio.org|http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/quirky|Packages-puppy-*-official ibiblio.org|http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... *-official'

Note that I have removed that ftp.nluug or whatever location so that it chooses ibiblio.

Stu90 et al. If you edit in installed puppy the DISTRO_PET_REPOS rows. You need to reboot puppy before the changes takes place. There seems to be somekind cache if you have launched PPM.

Yes that was the one - thanks for uploading 8)
good news - is that mplayer - gnome-maplyer - gecko mediaplayer downloaded from the debain repos in ppm play all the files no problem :D

Bad new - no matter what i try i cant get the common repo to work - i tried copying you links above to the distro_pet_repos files and rebooting but it is still trying to download from
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... ges-common

Pemasu if you could upload your woof distro_pet_repos as i have been fiddling about with mine and perhaps that is a reason i can't get it to work, maybe there is some extra file some where when the distro is being build that is wrong?

thanks.

Stu90. I have copied my selection from my DOTpackages folder. I have added my packages to dpup-official and so I copy the distro needed files from the folder without those added packages. Using dpup-official makes the woof use that file as primary selection file, so I use it.
Those are the rows I use from above post. I think the nonworking reason is somwhere else.

There is isnt anything other relevant links in .packages folder.

I need to study if /usr/local/petget folder have hardcoded link to that puppylinux address.

I would like to hear what Iguleder has decided to include. He has compiled mplayer2 and ffmpeg. I believe he compiled them as static. I dont know if pupradio and other mplayer depending apps works against them and ffmpeg also needs to compiled as shared so that for example Pmusic works with it. Zigbert has done hard work with it and has created code even in his vacation. I want to support that with shared libs compiled ffmpeg.

Packages-puppy-common-official. I am now in dpup back. Even having that corrected location as I have in my test build does not seem to enable downloading from common repo.
I booted drake 003 and it has exactly same problem. Wrong location and does not download.

Pet_packages-common is Barrys repo for puppy building. It is used when you build a puppy using woof and it has the base packages for most puppies.

I dont know if Barry has thought it is not used after puppy build and it should not be included as choicable repo.

http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=02312

I think it should be asked from Barry.

In new woof the pngoverlay fix has been transferred to the 3builddistro script to be done during woof building.

Delayedrun script can be now left as default, if you dont want to edit otherwise. I will still remove the welcome message part.
