That's not 'old', Jim lad! There's been an argument raging on DWW about the K6-II/III not being an i586. ipso facto, as I said many times, anything from this millennium qualifies as 'new'. Just wondering if I did bring an i386 with me....

I have found what you refer to now. Yes it would be better if him had asked first. But I am not a Mod so I should say nothing.

When I open the terminal in Slacko, I see these 3 lines:
Any idea, how to get rid of them?

Well, Puppy reckons the K6 II is i586 (see the HardInfo report for Zhaan in my sig) so who am I to argue? Another clue is that pets specifically compiled for i686 bomb out with an Illegal Instruction error on that machine.

As I read it, the doubt surrounded whether the K6- II & III were i486 or i586. There really isn't any doubt that it is not an i686. Maybe the rare K6-III s behaved more like i586, but the K6-II was a longer series spanning more fsb s, so might return either 4 or 5-86.

remasterpup2 doesn't work. I have fixed it. Tested in Slacko but should work in Wary as well.
AMD K6-3D is i586.

Thank you rodin.s
Any way you can think of to integrate your Russian keyboard fix to xorgwizard/countrywizard?
And yes, I have always understood that K6 is i586.
Some things in Slacko are compiled i686 to take advantage of the new features, ffmpeg is the main one.

hi all
cant get my laptop to boot slacko, I get as far as testing the driver clicking on ok and the machine freezes with a black screen, have tried probe as well as vesa (which works in the lucid pups) but still get the same problem.
how would I find which graphics the machine is using so that I could try and get the right driver
cheers

Stripe, try this at boot.
Then run : | Code: | | lspci -nn|grep -i vga |
Write it down
EDIT:
Ok, saw your post about the new lappy, raffy reported to me it needs the latest AMD-radeon drivers, I'll get on to it

I was under the impression that the Vesa video driver would work with any video card. So far that has held true for me.
It uses the basic video capability built into the video card.
The most common problem with Vesa driver is trying to use a resolution setting that the driver can not handle.
It only works with basic resolution settings.
640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024, etc....
