Try sfs load on the fly - that way you can load and use .sfs packages straight away with out rebooting.

Abiword

#83 Post by sszindian »

A NEW feature for Abiword, ' AbiCollab.net ' Wow... what a nice program: This should make it much easier for dev's to work on a certain program without all the email's and PM's involved?? (Hope they make use of it) Looks like a little 'Cloud' has slipped into Abiword huh!

https://abicollab.net/

AbiWord allows you to collaborate with multiple people on one document at the same time. It is tightly integrated with the AbiCollab.net web service, which lets you store documents online, allows easy document sharing with your friends, and performs format conversions on the fly and guess what... It's All FREE and works nice with one of the latest versions of Abiword here in Squeeze 499 !!!!!

Xscreensaver

#84 Post by sszindian »

Having a tough time getting a Xscreensaver to install in 499.2

Tried:

Creating an 'ssconfig' script that 'gospel' recommended in another tread for Dpups and placing it in usr/sbin/

Quote:
#!/bin/bash
cd /
chmod 777 root
su nobody -c xscreensaver-demo
#exit
cd /
chmod 755 root

That only starts the tiny demo window (Screensaver Preferences where the various patterns run very well) when you click on the ssconfig script itself, it doesn't run if you click on Screensaver from the Desktop Menu . Then a small window pops up stating that the -

The XScreenSaver daemon doesn't seem to be running on display ":0.0". Launch it now?

When I click OK, another small window pops up and says-

Error: The xscreensaver daemon did not start up properly. Please check your $PATH and permissions.

I tried all the permissions, no dice... not sure about the $PATH thingy!

Can anyone take this further or make any suggestions?

'Thanks'

Google-Earth

#85 Post by sszindian »

In the past, trying to install Google-Earth direct from the Debian repo has always given me problems in a Puppy so I tried an 'Already-Made.Pet' from the lucid repo at ibibilo and guess what, installed without problems and run the very first time without a hitch! Now, if you go back through this thread and install what I have advised in Squeeze-499-2, Especially the 2.26.39-3 Kernel it's possible that that's what makes this program run so well, at least it does it for me!

Go to:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pe ... ges-lucid/

Download the .pet:
Google_Earth-6.0.3.2197-lucid525.pet

'Enjoy Google Earth'

PS: Possibly many of the lucid .pets there will work in Squeeze-499-2, if you have luck with any others, please post them here as it seem this version of Puppy once created by BK doesn't seem to interest any of the devs.... What a shame, it has so much potential!!!!! But if us users keep plugging away at it, we may just end up with the KING of Puppy's in time.

Thanks Barry for this great Pup I have been test driving it. I didn't think I'd like a woof based Pup but this is nice with some Debian packages added to build it. 8)
