Xara Xtreme Graphics

#1 Post by Lobster »

Inkscape not good enough?
try the Alpha of Xara Xtreme

Here is how
Go here: http://www.xaraxtreme.org/download/
  • * Right click on the stable or unstable Tar Bzip2 Archive (I choose the latest unstable)
    and "Copy Link location"
    * Go to Start / Internet / Wget on the Puppy2 menu
    * Paste (ctrl + v) into Enter address
    * add a download location eg. /root/my-applications/
    * Click on "Download file"
    * It seems like nothing is happening . . . but when "Download Finished" in the log area (15 meg)
    appears you will find the file in /root/my-applications
    * click on the zip file and select extract from the toolbar
    the runnable file is in /root/my-applications/xarxl/bin
Be Artistic!

Hey Lobster,

Here's Xara LX in Puppy2 from Barry.

The answer is yes with both Puppy2 files. I used both because I discovered there are differences between them when it comes to printing with CUPS.

:) Good job Dewdrop

I first came across Xara when it was being used on the ARM Risc chip of the Archimedes (which I nearly bought in to)
Then they recruited assembler programmers for the PC and I went to a show and bought the beta. At the time CorelDraw was the prevelant package. Xara was simpler but faster, more usable, better results. For a while Corel owned Xara (if you can not beat them - own them)

Xara is 50% feature complete and those features are stable in use. In 6 months every distro will be using Xara. We tend to be ahead of the pack. Use it. Report back to Xara.

Puppys just want to have fun . . .

It's a great program, that's for sure. The dotpup I created is just the generic binary from the Xara website, in a ROX-wrapper. It will also add an entry if you are using xdg menus. So pretty well fully compatible with Puppy.

As far as I can tell, the Xarino and Xara-Cairo forks are also no longer developed.
I don't know of any other forks, though I thought I recalled seeing a fork name that wasn't that similar.

Consider LibreCAD as an alternative

#13 Post by mikeslr »

Noting the problems and limitations above, if you need a vector graphics application, perhaps try LibreCAD. A wellminded search, http://wellminded.net63.net/, provides some ready made versions.

If you have Tahrpup, the 32-bit version, quickpet provides an easy download from the Graphics tab.

It may well be worth your while to run Tahrpup in addition to whatever other OS you like. Just in its graphics section are such topnotch other applications as gimp and mypaint.
