I noticed the puppy package manager in this release is missing the 'all' option, making it tedious to hunt down dependencies, because you have to guess which category they are in, or if they are even in the repositories. Anyone know a way to get the all back?

I was able to get rakarrack and yoshimi/zynaddsubfx working with qjackctl,
the hard way.

Hi folks !
My intend now is to report about useful apps or tools i found and tried out.

Here i want to advertise a little (but powerful) tool called SWAPFILE-MANAGER.
It works like a (virtual) ram extender-expansion.

I am just a linux beginner and i am thankful learning from other peoples experinces
Ok.... so i want share my experince with a little tool called Swapfile-manager.

Here is what i did , and how i used it.

My computer is a toshiba laptop with 1 gigabyte of ram. Macpup is installed to USB stick- 4 gigabyte memory.

I am working in macpup with this audio recording and editing app "audacity".
With audacity i used to stream and record quite large audio Wave files from internet.
(sometimes 30 minutes as wave file)
Before i used this swapfile -manager, oftenly, when wavestreams became to large, the Audacity app collapsed and went off.

Since using these little devil, my machines ram , works like on steroids.

Now i am able to handle (wave) files in large sizes ,i couldn`t do this never before. Now i can record and edit my favorite music even if the files became really big.

This little tool REALLY makes me happy.......and i hope it will do this to anybody else too .

Yes, all releases of your fine work make it to at least top10 and that is because they deserve it! I am still on mp5.25 and it is so fine with my own tweaking on my old lappy., couldnt think of anything better when it comes to E17. But hey, i trust you (as allways) and give the new 5.28E a try on the weekend. As ever i am sure i would not be dissapointed...

Hi. I'm glad you liked my article. It's been a great 1-year journey of discovering the superiority of linux for me and I like macpup a lot!

I like to use it to clean up the odd win-blows machine of some desparate person whose laptop has blue-screen-itis.

Still, I don't recommend it as a fisrt choice to newcomers, they need something like Ubuntu that will make their lives as easy as possible so that they won't go back to proprietary fascist software.

By the way, I used fedora early on. Macpup crushes fedora in usabililty, features, ease of use, looks, ect...

I'll keep in touch with the forum. There's lots of useful info here. I hadn't seen it until yesterday.

Hello runtt21,

I am in the process of making a specialized Macpup for my best friend who I have partially converted to Puppy Linux. He was a Windows user who has recently moved to Ubuntu. I recommended a couple pups for him to try and he likes Macpup because of the extra bling of your themes and the E17 window manager.

Right now I am in the process of remastering Macpup 5.2.8 for him with the following additions:

- ATI driver preinstalled
- defaults-chooser (by ScOttman)
- startmount
- the latest firefox
- VLC Media Player

I don't have a burnt CD of Macpup because I install most puplets with my usual Linux-in-Windows method by extracting the ISO and adding a menu entry into the grub4dos menu.lst

I wanted to do the remaster without the burnt CD by mounting the ISO image. However, when I clicked on the ISO file to mount it, I got an error message. I was trying to mount from a folder in the /usr/mnt/home drive, labelled as sda1. Please see attacthed pic.
Upon further investigation, I noticed that the same thing happens for me in Puppy 5.2.8 as well as Dpup Exprimo 5.X.7 and my own Slickpup 5.2.5. I guess I can always burn Macpup to CD so that I can remaster, but I was wondering if you or anyone out there knows of the solution to get puppy to mount an iso by clicking on it?

I can't help you with this one. I have never tried to mount a .Iso like that .

I just tried to do a click to mount on a .iso . Running mp528 I was able to mount the mp525.iso just by clicking on it. I had the .iso on a separate usb flash drive.You may need to move the .Iso outside of /mnt/home to a different place.

You were right; I copied an ISO file over to USB, clicked on it and it mounted.

Firefox 8.0 beta is now availiable. I always use the beta version, which is one behind the Aurora version and one ahead of the official version.

Edit: Yeah, I should have been more specific. Actually, I am packaging the firefox-8.0b pet right now.

Macup 528 includes a firefox version 7 beta.
Indicated that older computers will crash, unstoppable enemies (murderers) killed(?)process signal.

I suggested earlier, use the 6.0.1 version of the update release channels - the problem disappeared.
The release channel with no problem 7.0.1 updated version, and that there was no trouble.

I have no problems with the beta version, but your info is good to know. Maybe I will switch to official releases in my future puplets.
