UPDATE: 2014-08-05

http://shino.pos.to/party/bridge.cgi?puppy/opt/
Fixed owner, ROX-Filer stuff built-in.

Another build by OscarTalks available at http://smokey01.com/OscarTalks/

There is another SFS made by TheAsterisk!

As for the browser plugin, Seamonkey-2.x/Firefox/Chrome works out of box.

For Seamonkey-1.x, follow next steps after you load this SFS.
  1. Remove the link, /usr/mozilla/plugins/libnpjp2.so.
  2. Make a link to /usr/java/jre1.6.0_31/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so as /usr/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so.
  3. Enable Java from the Seamonky menu, Edit > Preferences > Advanced.
  4. Visit http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp to check JAVA
A small test program written Java available.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=61190
You can load the SFS on-the-fly by using SFS-Load, but you may need to restart X or PC to activate the MIME settings.

Yes, its another version...you're right.

I think that yo can just download this SFS, mount it and copy all the files into a new empty jre dir, and then call the dir2pet script...
But, why don't just use the SFS?

How to turn shinobar's jre-1.6.0.23 SFS into a .PET

#8 Post by Sit Heel Speak »

Howdy jogreer,

(hmm...I've been hitting the pasta a little too much lately...that's something I need to get outside and do...jog my reer...)

It is easy to create a jre .pet package from the .sfs. Do you want to be as dependent on others as a suckling calf, or learn how to supply your own needs? I thought so. Here's how:

1. Download the .sfs.

2. Open a Rox-filer window, navigate to the subdirectory where you downloaded the .sfs to.

3. Left-click on the .sfs. This will mount the .sfs and a Rox-Filer window will open, showing the contents of the .sfs (/etc and /usr subdirectories).

4. Open an rxvt window (Menu-->Utility-->(u)rxvt) and issue

Code: Select all

mkdir jre-1.6.0.23
rox jre-1.6.0.23
5. Go back to the Rox-filer window which shows the contents of the .sfs.

6. Drag'n'drop the subdirs /etc/ and /usr, choose Copy, into the new jre-1.6.0.23 subdirectory.

7. Go to the rxvt window and issue

Code: Select all

dir2pet jre-1.6.0.23
dir2pet is an automated .pet-package creation utility. For this .pet package, you can just Enter through the prompts, except, in the GUI window, you might change the label from "Java Control Panel" to "Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0_23". At one point an editor window will open, showing the pet.specs line. Just close it.

8. In the rxvt window, issue

Code: Select all

rox
and you will see your new .pet package. Move it to somewhere outside your savefile, such as /mnt/home (or, better, create a new subdir, /mnt/home/PETS) and drag'n'drop, Move the new jre-1.6.0.23.pet into it.

9. Left-click the jre-1.6.0.23.pet and it will install.

Isn't knowledge empowering?

Best wishes,
SHS

I compiled jre-1.6.0.23 and used jre-1.6.0.22.pet as a base to make a jre-1.6.0.23.pet, hope i haven't stepped on anyone's toe's.

It can be downloaded HERE size 36 meg

Edit: I compiled this in fluppy, which it will run in, should run in other pups.

Done!

jre-1.6u24-i586.sfs.zip
jre-1.6u24-i586.sfs.md5.txt

The SFS is 36 to 37 MB.

shinobar's note regarding the Seamonkey 1-series applies to this package, too.

It's not the exact same package as shinobar's SFS, but I did package JRE 7 and JRE 1.6u27 a while ago. You can download either of them from this thread.

jre-1.6.0.30.sfs

#20 Post by Monsie »

Hi Shinobar,

I have your previous version 1.6.0.27.sfs currently installed. Should I un-install it first before updating to your new version, or will the update overwrite the existing jre and configure it accordingly?

Thanks,
Monsie
