It turns out that it's a script that you wrote that
is confusing pburn.

It's in the Startup folder of both Akita and exprimo.

Could you look into the problem and
give an answer to Zigbert?

________________________________________________
Akash Rawal made that script, not me... I have already updated it for the next BETA, so that it does not contain any characters that will throw pburn, or any other app... I already posted a few times about SFS-Load not working with some characters - it is exactly the same issue... But I have worked around it already - symlinks created are now "/media/Home-sda1" or "/media/Data-sdb2" and so on...

Help appreciated, see link above!

Here are some TINY games, which I will probably include in Akita... I will consider any other good classic games, like boggle, scrabble, etc, as long as the package is less than 100k!

GAME SUGGESTIONS WELCOME... Keep them small please! ;)

Libpoppler update...

#363 Post by sc0ttman »

Hmmm... I updated libpoppler, but I think it broke pdftohtml, pdftotext, other utils in this package, and maybe others as well... I wonder what else might be broken from updating libpoppler... I have tried to re-compile pdftohtml, no success, yet to find out why...

I noticed this as I am in the process of updating a few of the ROX right click options, to better support mp-5, which I will be adding to Akita :)

Zathura depends on libpoppler, but it's easy to fool it with
a link or just recompile it again. It only takes a second.

Here's my 'To Do' list, suggestions welcome now, before I finish:

Code: Select all

	- make a quickpet, with office, cups, WMs, vbox, WHAT ELSE?

	- re-compile pdftohtml!!

	- zdrv_cutr GUI

	- add a 'Legacy' button to Firstrun, which loads 1stwelcome (and thus wizardwizard)?

	- i18n more puppy scripts
			- woofy, vlc-gtk, quickpet

	- fix puppyinstaller - make it support gtkdialog3 properly

	- add updated puppy phone package (psip32)
	- remove old psip package

	- add phash to 'OpenWith' folder

	- add bacon syntax highlighting to geany
	- remove nicoedit

	- get all remaining translations added:
		- check akita thread, akitas spanish thread, german thread, french thread
		- create .mo files as needed
		- do any small/easy translations myself

	- update VLC-GTK - vlc-gtk-btn:
			- if audio files playing, add a simple playlist GUI
			- with file list and play/stop/next/prev/save buttons
			- maybe include id3 tags

	- add /media to gtk-bookmarks

	- gparted_shell i18n'd, but it still needs the translations added

	- PPM package manager:
		- filter by: [pkgname], EXE, DEV, NLS (add grep to line 31 of filterpkgs.sh, pass extra option from pkg_chooser.sh)
		- speed up the "dependcheckfunc" in /usr/sbin/petget ???

PPM Package Manager updated

#369 Post by sc0ttman »

Yeaaah... I got the PPM updated how I wanted... When clicking the 'Filter' button, you can now filter packages by category, type (DEV, NLS, EXE, DOC) and search term (package name)... :D

Re: PPM Package Manager updated

#370 Post by sc0ttman »

About Akitas "QuickPet":

I am thinking of adding my own repo to the PPM, with the Akita quickpet stuff...

- Then, I can use the PPMs dependency checking, package searching, etc
- So, I will also try to add support for sfs files (download and on the fly loading)..

And I may also have a go at adding a 'current kernel' only tick box to the Filter GUI - to remove all pets made for other kernels

akita now has its own repo in the ppm

#371 Post by sc0ttman »

Akita QuickPet plans have changed

I have added a new repo to the PPM.. the "Akita" repo,
you just click the button at the top of the PPM to see it..

(That will be in the next BETA/RC candidate)

So far I have added lots of packages to test, about 125 in total,
and built the required livepackges**.txt file..

So I have been testing the new PPM repo for a while and all works well.

The repo is already available online (obviously) so here it is: Akita repo

Even without the new PPM, you can download the packages in Akita and test them:

1. Does it have a menu entry? Does that entry have an icon? In right place?

2. Does the .pet have any missing files?

Code: Select all

 ldd /path/to/file
will tell you the deps missing

3. Did it replace anything and break something else?

Code: Select all

Look in '/root/.packages/***.files;
to see what was installed.

4. Please suggest (and link to!) other packages that should be added!

NOTE: Wary 511 packages, 2.14X packages, pup431 packages work in Akita (except drivers!)..

After the PPM is ready, you can test/check:

1. the description, file size and category as listed in the PPM

2. Your new, suggested packages

Sorry I can't test for a while, sc0ttman, but your repository looks Absolutely Fab with the selection range. Recently I 'discovered' puppian pa-mcclamrock's site (http://www.pa-mcclamrock.com/icebox.html) and his extensive "how-to's" on gnocl and tcl/GTK+ - to my mind it makes Akita the perfect base for newbies interested in customising their desktop painlessly, while having all the choices of updated packages from Wary, 214X - on top of the solid 420 foundation. With your new-and-improved QuickPet, the mind boggles. Your work here will probably spawn litters of pupplets,

Thanks :)

I am actually a big fan of pa_mcclamrocks work - I have had all his stuff
installed in the past, before some of his excellent updates..

I have noticed many of the pets which require Tcl/Tk in the Akita repo, do not
have it listed as a dependency. I am gonna update the deps for many packages in
the Akita repo, and make sure the tk/tcl packages work OK..

Then I can make a bumper PET pack of pa_mcclamrocks apps :)
(I might already have it there, can't remember)

Also, I plan to upload PETs of openoffice 1, 2 and 3, all less than 100mb :)
And I'll upload some softoffice and goffice2 PETs, too..

I am gonna have to convert a few sfs files into pet files before I do that.

Aside from Wary 5.1.x and 2.14X, I have also tried out a few pets from Guy Dog,
Next Puppy, Dpup and so on - they work well, and I will include a lot of them in
the repo.. This includes openbox, tint2, etc..

But I need suggestions from others, as to what else to stick in there...
(If anyone is interested, of course.. otherwise I'll choose!)

OK, in the Akita Repo (akita.scottjarvis.com) the following needs looking at (by me, just makin notes):

- FreeCiv ideally needs recompile, or (not ideally) old readline lib included in it
- mtcelledit should be in Calculate not Document category
- tangogps says gpsd not found, even when installed?

Also, I need a way to make /usr/bin/jwm_menu_create only show
duplicate items if the items end up in separate categories..

Example: The 'Fun' category has no sub categories, but many games have 2 categories listed in the .desktop files,
so appear twice in Menu>Fun .. but Pmusic is rightly listed twice, in different categories...

Just a quick note about your repository, sc0ttman -
I tried numptyphysics and it generated two menu items in the Fun section. I thought also that it had a neat soundtrack and effects I couldn't get here - perhaps that was Crayon Physics I remember.
GnuChess doesn't have a menu item, and wbar and wbarCC won't load properly as pets unless via PuppyControl (??). When I tried to run wbar control console, couldn't see it start and when I rebooted X I lost my xorgwizard settings. Couldn't actually get Xwin back and running despite multiple attempts (and with Xvesa). Me and Wbar haven't had a great history...
All the other games I tried seemed to load fine (except FreeCiv).
Sorry that I can't be more diagnostic with my feedback at the present time.
Cheers.

PS I actually PM'ed dave earlier last week to ask if he had an "IceBox" pupplet to showcase his wares - it would be amazing if you could resurrect that pet 'project' if you have it handy.
What about SoftMaker2008 for an office suite? Still a licensing issue with that?
And perhaps gnuGo (I think - over in the MacPup threads I remember it being discussed) - the kids seem really interested in that as a boardgame, better than checkers or chess which surprised me (happily).

Thanks for the info and suggestions, I will get back to ya later...

***EDIT: OK, I am back.
Puppyt wrote:Just a quick note about your repository, sc0ttman -

Yep, I posted about duplicate menu items above, I will have a hack a jwm_menu_create, see what I can do...
I thought also that it had a neat soundtrack and effects I couldn't get here - perhaps that was Crayon Physics I remember.
Yeah, thats crayon physics, which is really really good!
GnuChess doesn't have a menu item
It's a CLI chess engine that needs a frontend.. the description states this in the PPM (which you can't see yet!)

However I may remove the chess engines from PPM and just offer a complete "xboard+fairymax" bundle, which includes an engine... Maybe also a cboard+gnuchess bundle.. I think that's best..
wbar and wbarCC won't load properly as pets unless via PupControl. When I tried to run wbar control console, couldn't see it start and when I rebooted X I lost my xorgwizard settings.
Both of these packages need cleaning up for Akita, as they work out of the box on Puppy Arcade..
All the other games I tried seemed to load fine (except FreeCiv). Sorry that I can't be more diagnostic with my feedback at the present time.
Cheers.
That's great, thanks for testing..
PS I actually PM'ed dave earlier last week to ask if he had an "IceBox" pupplet to showcase his wares - it would be amazing if you could resurrect that pet 'project' if you have it handy.
I will definitely get it in the repo, but have had troubles with auto installing tcl+tk, by listing them as deps - others that I've done work fine :?: I actually included nearly all of them in Puppy Arcade as default - so there is one puplet out there showcasing his apps :)
What about SoftMaker2008 for an office suite? Still a licensing issue with that?
I uploaded most of it while at my 2nd (less important) job, but could not get enough free time to convert and upload all the openoffice and softoffice stuff... I will do that soon.. I think I have softmaker 2010 lying around, and Barry made a softoffice pet recently.. The only license 'issues' with Softoffice programs are that they require email registration before they will work.
And perhaps gnuGo (I think - over in the MacPup threads I remember it being discussed) - the kids seem really interested in that as a boardgame, better than checkers or chess which surprised me (happily).
Never heard of it, but I'll have a look... Do you have a tar.gz around anywhere?

Thanks for all your detailed replies, sc0ttman -
I had no idea that one of your Arcade Pupplets had dave (pa) mcclamrock's goodies - you seemed to be churning out versions back then and I just didn't get a chance to try any :(
Actually, trying to steer clear of exposing the kids to first-person shooters - the collection of games jemimah provided in Fluppy is about our speed (and the HSB/HanSamBen pupplets, of course. Can't forget ol' GamesPup either). Might have been a bit of passive avoidance, if any of your Arcades had something Quake-like the kids would dig out :( Apologies.

Versions floating around on the forum are dio444's:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 5130#15130

GuestToo's pup (via Muggin's 'Quarry' pet):
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 234#161234

But runtt21 is DEFINITELY the "go-to" guy on the forums (pun intended), and at last count recommends this version:
http://www.gokgs.com/download.jsp

Thanks again for all the earlier clarifications,
Cheers!

software for Akita

#378 Post by don570 »

Here are three pets I made for Akita

Quick Launch is improved by allowing apps to launch as
well.... and I fixed the list of folders,
and translations are improved.

Elinks_text-1.0 is the result of an idea I had.
If a text file was the output of elinks then it would
easier to manipulate the text. So I made this rightclick option.

It turns out to be very useful for me. See yourself :)

Feel free to rewrite the software and use it in Akita.
Make sure that Quick Launch launches with Ctrl-shift -L.
