Can anyone compile this? (I have failed, not sure why)

It's a lightweight boulderdash clone, a faithful recreation of original (unlike others)

rewrote quick lauch

#382 Post by don570 »

I tried the new quick launch on a 800x600 screen
and it didn't work properly, because of the changes I made.
So I reduced the height of list and some other small changes.

I made Quick launch a different way
this time.

I made the app list from the .desktop files.
This helps to make it a universal program,
but I still had to make a special one for Akito linux.

Note I put an icon in the folder 'Screenshots'
so that 'zero files' message won't pop up
when launching screenshot browser.

Have you ever looked at the cire program?
I don't use it , but it might be better than Osmo
for keeping notes.

I recompiled the latest ROX-Filer that now uses gtkbuilder. If you use glipper-lite and gtkdialog compiled without glade, you can eliminate libglade now.
Check out my github repositories. I may eventually get around to updating my blogspot.

I've been using your ROX binary pretty much since you posted it, and have had no problems, the drag and drop columns work fine.. Nice :)

But I have not re-compiled gtkdialog, and know diddly about glipper (no glip* cmds installed!), but maybe you could start a thread about removing glade as a dep in Puppy, what needs doing and so on, so we can make it an optional package for future puppies... show people the way..
___________________

Don, I'll have a look at QuickLaunch 1.6... Which fbreader package do you use? I found an old one, which I lost by mistake, but I will add fbreader into the Akita repo, preferably the smallest, latest, greatest package that works in Akita...

Also, I think I will leave Osmo as is, I like it..
____________________

About the repo, I also added: softmakeroffice-2008-bk, openoffice-2.2.0 and openoffice-3.2..
Plus some small SDL games, like digger, pipepanic.. and some other stuff..

I'll update the htaccess file on the server, so the .pets are 'fancy indexed', so they can be sorted by date, etc...

I will add LibreOffice, the LibreOffice installer as well... Can't test the LibreOffice SHS .pet (150mb) - I don't have enough RAM to uncompress it (apparently).. I'm also very low on disk space, so save files are out of the question...

It may just be a problem with the .pet that I had, so if anyone can show me another LiberOffice package, that I can test, then I'll test that (sfs or pet)..

I'll also try 01mickos installer GUI, but need disk space, damn it.

here is gtkdialog4 (you can try making a symlink to gtkdialog3, but some apps may not work - see barrys blog), the only others are older versions if gnumeric and gtrayicon which wasnt in older puppies at all and ghasher (i think there is a gtkdialog alternative).

btw here was the hacky one liner I used:

Code: Select all

for x in /*in/* /usr/*in/* /usr/local/*in/* ; do [ "`ldd $x |grep glade`" ] && echo $x; done
feel free to modify it to try and find others that you suspect may be unnecessary

Nice, thanks for that binary...

But.. Damn! All of the following need Glade, in Akita: gtrayicon, galculator, ghunter, gins, glurp, ghasher, gtkdialog3, gtkdialog4, ssindex, ssconvert.. also maybe firewall-genie??

If I am to remove Glade, I will need a gtkdialog3 that doesn't use it... I cannot really be bothered to go through bkhome.org myself and find all fixed pets... I might tho...

But even then, Barry only updated SOME pets - then he changed to using 'gtkdialog4' where needed, instead.. So removing gtkdialog3 might not work well anyway... I could PM 01micko I guess - cos Slacko has updates many scripts, cos its *only* got gtkdialog4.. but micks really busy at the moment..

I might see what I can do, need to find alternatives for glurp, can remove the rest (ghunter, ghasher, etc).. Will use 'phash' by Barry instead... Not sure what 'gins' is...

Also used your one-liner to find the following are missing libs: ssindex, ssconvert, fluidsynth, foomatic-rip, bareview, gtmoz...
Most will get removed..

Hmmm, it seems a few things like the Font DPI setter (setxftdpi) also use gins, which needs glade...
I wonder what else needs 'gins'....

And how much space does Glade take up? the libs seem small enough...
Why remove Glade? Is it that slow or something?

** EDIT:

I also noticed that rodin.s kindly updated input wizard and other things, but it means I have to re-add the changes I did, in order to make input-wizard (and others) use 'gtkdialog', not 'gtkdialog2'...

I am also trying out having ONLY gtkdialog4 ...
The one attached by techno a few posts earlier..

I have a /usr/sbin/gtkdialog symlink pointing to /usr/sbin/gtkdialog4, and have used the script below to update everything I can find to use 'gtkdialog', not 'gtkdialog2' or 'gtkdialog3'

Save the code below as script_grepper, and chmod +x

Code: Select all

#!/bin/ash
[ ! "$1" ] && echo "Usage: `basename $0` SEARCH [REPLACE]" && exit 1

mv $HOME/script_grepper.log $HOME/script_grepper.log.bak
clear; echo Please wait...

for FILE in /*in/* /usr/*in/* /usr/local/*in/* /usr/local/*/* ; do
   case `file ${FILE}` in
    *Bourne*)
    	if [ "`cat ${FILE} | grep ${1}`" != "" ];then # $1 was found
      		if [ "$2" != "" ];then # if $2 was given
      			FILE2=`cat ${FILE} | sed "s/${1}/${2}/g"` # replace $1 with $2 in $FILE2
      			echo "${FILE2}" > ${FILE} # replace $FILE with the updated $FILE2
      			echo ${FILE} was updated >> $HOME/script_grepper.log
      			echo ${FILE} was updated
      		else
      			echo ${FILE} >> $HOME/script_grepper.log
echo ${FILE} # just show the match, don't replace anything
      		fi
      	fi
   	;;
	*);;
	esac
done

exit 0
Usage: script_grepper SEARCH [REPLACE]

sc0ttman wrote:GAME SUGGESTIONS WELCOME... Keep them small please! ;)
You might already have this but if not: From the winner of The International Obfuscated C Code Contest 2004 best game, vik1 a 8K racing-game (source code unreadable :-/).
Usage: vik1 ['a']['d'][#]
a - Advanced racing in a winter landscape
d - Racing in at night in the dark
# - Race track selection 1-3 are valid numbers
Here are a few examples:
Command line: Description:
vik1 Run track 1 at daytime in the summer
vik1 a Run track 1 at daytime in the winter
vik1 d Run track 1 at night in the summer
vik1 3 Run track 3 at daytime in the summer
vik1 d3 Run track 3 at night in the summer
vik1 ad2 Run track 2 at night in the winter

Note that the order in which the argument characters are entered is important. It is for example not possible to type ./vik1 da. (Well it is possible, but the result will not be as expected.)

The space key accelerates the car. Releasing the space key slowly reduces the speed. The left and right arrow keys are used to steer the car.

i18n'd input wizard seems broken!!

#392 Post by sc0ttman »

Thanks goingnuts, that's great, sooo tiny lol.. I'll add that in.. I've been looking into how to shrink SDL games as well, Keef gave me some great tips - basically hacking the source to use more compressed images, sounds, etc ... Maybe even a mcb of (puzzle?) games, using shared images, sounds, etc... Or do it in reverse - one 'engine' plus a few skins/mods, etc.. Something for me to play with later.. ;)
___________________________________

On another note, I have been upgrading stuff to remove a few dependencies,
nothing major, but proving to be a real pain in the neck...

I have re-updated the i18n'd /usr/sbin/input-wizard that I got from rodin.s,
so that it now uses gtkdialog3 or later... BUT, it just won't work!!

The buttons do nothing - the ONLY changes from 01mickos version
(which works fine in Akita) is the gettext stuff...

Hmmm, any ideas anyone?? I'll attach it, so you can test! ;)

I don't wanna revert to 01mickos, then we lose i18n and 4 nice translations...

I have added, instead: gtkdialog4 (0.8.1, no glade deps), phash, set-xtfspi (Xdialog version)

It seems that Firewall_genie might be OK without glade installed.

I want to compile the following with gtk-builder, if possible: glurp, galculator, gtrayicon...

Also, I've updated the PPM and browser installer, because I found a nice Google Chrome (but older) package that works in Akita.. It's in the repo.

I've also updated Viewnior to 1.1, from common repo, cause its got more features..

I looked through my disk for old copies of FBReader and I
found this.

File: ch-fbreader-0.10.7-i486.sfs
Size: 1.33 MB

http://www.datafilehost.com/download-5ab7bb2c.html

I must have downloaded it from the Murga forum, I don't even
remember.

It's in the old format. I tried to convert it to the new format
using your conversion software but it apparently didn't work.

I tried Barry's newest Wary and it's converter did work!!
I was able to get FBReader to run and open a rtf file.

right click conversion of mp3 and wav files

#397 Post by don570 »

I also rewrote my right click conversion of mp3 and wav files

I wanted a way of backing out of the conversion (for safety)
and I found that the old version of yaf splash
that I was using couldn't handle foreign languages.

I'll check out the updates... And you can find a smaller, updated fbreader package than the one you're using in the Akita repo, I just stuck it there ;) (the the sfs you posted doesnt need converting - I clicked on it and it mounted fine... then I loaded it on the fly OK as well...)

Delayed in getting feedback to you sc0ttman - pointy end of term is approaching fast...
Thanks for all your work here - really appreciate the Go programmes you've included in your repository - Akita is probably going to serve as a great babysitter when I have to use the laptop to occupy the kids (and the kids-at-heart). I can't seem to get XArchon working properly though - I can't select pieces to move. I note that it doesn't have a menu listing - but again, you probably have stated this in an earlier post and I've missed it..Have you had better luck running XArchon, but odds-on it's just me...
I haven't got any suggestions for other games at the moment, doing some sideways dredging in old DOS classics for the kids in an older laptop with only 48Mb Ram max, and without a joystick port :(. On page 298-ish of ttuuxx's 214X thread I posted a link to a java game I'm quite fond of (Lords of Midnight) - I've collected other versions from the IceMark fanbase, but they're mostly for Win environments.

Do you have a suitable icon suggestion for opening emel2fm from wbar? Doesn't seem to be provided in Akita at the moment.

Still 'no go' with Frisbee - but the other wi-fi managers lock'n'load without any problem. I don't think that it's the wpa_supplicant file I cut'n'pasted across from PolarPup003, as I can 'enable' Frisbee wireless, review and modify profiles etc but no luck on it actually selecting and displaying a IP address for wlan0. Same sort of behaviour happens with Exprimo 5x9, but I haven't made detailed notes.

Really appreciate all the bookmarks etc you've included with FireDog3.6. However I've run into a pretty perennial problem I have whenever I install a new browser pet: how do I make file associations (within mozilla) so that Rox is enabled to launch "download location" or a recently downloaded pet? Seems to be hidden in the normal selection pathways that enable other file-opening associations in the Application Launcher. I just haven't been able to track any how-to on this matter using the well-minded search etc, and it's got me stumped. (I think that I might suggest to Icyos that he make a how-to video on the steps involved.)

SoftMaker2008 is working like a dream - I just re-used my old registration details (from an earlier install that led to me purchasing SoftMaker2010 - but for Win :( ) and cobbled some icons together for wbar2.2. Apart from Presentations - which has an opening hiccup with running as user 'root' I haven't solved yet -everything opens super-fast in Akita :).

More in the "workhorse" mode I've been having troubles with disciples' PDFshuffler http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 6&start=45. I kinda thought that the Akita environment would be pre-configured for such an application (and after I downloaded poppler-0.12.4.2 from the Wary5 repository via your PPM, qt4-4.5.3.1-1-w5 was also installed as a co-dep -seems it might work). I'll have to reboot to see if it works, so I'll post this message in the interim.

Cheers :)

UPDATE: hmmmm could you please give me a hint on how I can get VLC to load Flash-chess and other swf's ? Can't shake exam-mode at the moment, brain and reality not syncing for me...
No luck with pdfshuffler for me at the moment. All dependencies check out ok, but no cigar. Might have to go back to the deb that disciple posted on SourceForge. Guess I'm going to have to go back to XP and IrfanView to combine my pdfs and images from across various lecture material, generating a single PDF to print how I want it at the University's printery.

EDIT: Eeeerk (slaps forehead) - Flash-chess working beaut AFTER I actually installed Flash (!) Tried to ignore those 'update Flash?' messages - reminded me of my Windows environs and all that needy bloatware I have on it... GOM plays SWF files 'natively', I haven't really tried in VLC (win or linux). Installed the latest python dev from the W5 repository in an effort to get pdfshuffle working, but no dice just yet. Undoubtedly I've taken the long way round with it somehow - even converted the SourceForge deb to a pet and all indications are that everything is in smoothly - just not working....
And I can get XArchon working too after a false start - I used to whup it's Arch back when I had it on an ol' Apple II clone - but it seems the whupping is now firmly from the other's foot.

PS using a T60 Lenovo widescreen, 2GHz with 2Gb Ram.

Damn those deadliines!
Thanks for all your work here - really appreciate the Go programmes you've included in your repository - Akita is probably going to serve as a great babysitter when I have to use the laptop to occupy the kids (and the kids-at-heart).
Haha, good.. Must be an old laptop, right? Or Akita wouldn't work... Is it one with a Radeon GPU? Have you tested the ATI stuff in the repo?
I can't seem to get XArchon working properly though - I can't select pieces to move. I note that it doesn't have a menu listing - but again, you probably have stated this in an earlier post and I've missed it..Have you had better luck running XArchon, but odds-on it's just me...
Nope, it's not just you, I have it on good authority the package works, and the game is famous, but I never heard of it and couldn't move any pieces in the game!! lol
I haven't got any suggestions for other games at the moment, doing some sideways dredging in old DOS classics for the kids in an older laptop with only 48Mb Ram max, and without a joystick port :(.

I'm still hunting around the "Linux Game Tome" website - searching all the SDL games, which do NOT require OpenGL... Seems to be a good way to find small, but good games.. I like 'pipepanic', in the Akita repo (highscore 3410 ;))..
On page 298-ish of ttuuxx's 214X thread I posted a link to a java game I'm quite fond of (Lords of Midnight) - I've collected other versions from the IceMark fanbase, but they're mostly for Win environments.
That reminds me, I will get a Java pet into the repo as well... Will search for the game... Also FreeCol uses Java, I think, and that's a good game.
Do you have a suitable icon suggestion for opening emel2fm from wbar? Doesn't seem to be provided in Akita at the moment.
I always just go with something in /usr/local/lib/X11/pixmaps/, or use "Google Images", limited to 128x128, if I want something specific..
I'm still (pointlessly) hoping someone like rerwin or tempestuous takes a look at Akita and remove any problems with drivers, udev, networking, hotplugging, etc... It's all beyond me at the moment...

I know - it's not in the menus!! But not my fault, just was not in that Firefox version that FireDog is based on... Anyway... You must right click on a saved file, in the "Downloads" tab, and do it from there.... Akita Beta4 will have a script called 'roxuri', and I will update the FireDog package to use it automatically.. So clicking on things in the downloads tab will work fine.. Soon as I figure out how to add that setting to a .pet..

(RoxURI is here: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 264#364264)

Glad it's working for you, nice and fast!!
I tried Slacko all day yesterday, Akita is (generally) faster on my PC... :)

I can add a wrapper script to the presentation thing, so that it runs as spot, I think... Had to do that with FreeCiv as well...

Something like:

Code: Select all

su spot
exec /usr/bin/presentation_thing
exit 0
More in the "workhorse" mode I've been having troubles with disciples' PDFshuffler http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 6&start=45
Never used it, will check it out...
UPDATE: hmmmm could you please give me a hint on how I can get VLC to load Flash-chess and other swf's ?
I didn't know it could! Can it do that? Because I have added 'gFlashPlayer' to the Flash Installer (Menu>Internet), which plays most of them fine...
Installed the latest python dev from the W5 repository in an effort to get pdfshuffle working, but no dice just yet.
Maybe try the python pets in the Akita repo? Might work better...
And I can get XArchon working too after a false start - I used to whup it's Arch back when I had it on an ol' Apple II clone - but it seems the whupping is now firmly from the other's foot.
How do I play it?? I might write a very simple popup dialog with controls before it loads....
