Ok, I use Puppy 1.0.8r1 on my pen drive. Yesterday I installed some stuff from Dotpup and Pupget (sane, extra codecs, modem drivers, mplayer, that I removed afterwards, and TV, that I also removed...)
Since then, everytime I click on the "little house" icon, the /home one, all my icons on the desktop go away. So I try by the start menu to open Rox, and it crash straight...
Only the uxplor opens, but I wonder if I can fix that without wiping my pendrive and re-installing Puppy... That would suck, because I have it with all my favorites...
-Any ideas ???
thanks in advance...
thanks MU
Well, yes I did reinstall everything, and I am going to follow your instructions for backing up my Mozilla stuff...
I think it's that TV Pupget download that screwed up everything...
Ok, thanks anyway for your help !

Re: thanks MU
I just got the same effect in 1.0.8r1 on 2 computers : a PC AMD-K6 desktop and a NEC Versa Laptop when I tried to install sane and Xsane via pupget. All went well on the PC - the scanner worked fine (the laptop didn't for some reason).Caraibes wrote:Well, yes I did reinstall everything, and I am going to follow your instructions for backing up my Mozilla stuff...

On both computers the desktop cleared of icons when the ROX-filer (home) icon (and only this one) was clicked. All other icons behaved OK and in all other respects (thru the start menu) the system performance was same as before.
I rebuilt the pup001 files on both machines but increased the file size on both from 256M to 384M before reinstalling the pupget sane/Xsane. No problems with desktop trashing this time on either machine - coincidence or gremlins or perhaps some other non-critical area of the pup001 file was vandalized??
I found your note after I had rebuilt pup001 after the same problem.MU wrote:just a guess:
delete
/root/.gtkrc
Does that help?
Btw. in case you reinstall:
save /root/.mozilla somewhere, and copy back in your new installation.
Then you have your bookmarks ans passwords back.
Same with /root/.sylpheed and /root/Mail.

does /root/.gtkrc exist on a healthy system?
My rebuilt system has a /root/gtkdiffrc but the only /gtkrc files I can see are in the /etc/gtk and /etc/gtk-2.0 folders and their hidden /root/.etc/ counterparts.
I'll look out for it if/when it happens again.
yes, /etc is Puppy-standard. I always confuse the folders with my old Mandrakesystem.
I realeased an Theme-addon once, that uses /root , so you easily can switch between my addon and Puppys themes, but just deleting/adding the /root/.gtk* -files.
Gtk-Themes can be quite unstable.
That starts from simple errors about missing fonts sent to stdout, as a consequence tools like pupget will not work correct.
There also pixmap-themes, that can crash rox (the desktop-icons) completey.
