The way them do it can indicate that it is a way to Data Mine your info
so try to protect yourself using NoScript and other such and only
give a email address that is for unsure companies a throw away addy.

"Securing & Optimizing Linux: The Hacking Solution (v.3.0)"

A comprehensive collection of Linux security products and explanations in the most simple and structured manner on how to safely and easily configure and run many popular Linux-based applications and services.

This 800+ page eBook is intended for a technical audience and system administrators who manage Linux servers, but it also includes material for home users and others. It discusses how to install and setup a Linux server with all the necessary security and optimization for a high performance Linux specific machine. It can also be applied with some minor changes to other Linux variants without difficulty.

Is this very commercial maybe? I hope it is not seen as spam?

I saw it on DistroWatch

"Request Now" running a cgi script.

Data Mining springs to mind.

You get such things on a level I can only dream of.
You mean them use this book as a way to get email addresses
from people for to be able to send spam to them legally?

Most likely one agree to that them have the right to send info
one have asked for Smile

If you want I can change the title or first line of the thread.
Suggest something and I sure will consider it. Shoot

nooby,

Fairly straightforward.

Notice it is not available unless you request it. Warning bells sound there.

Hover cursor over button, look at bottom status bar in browser and see where that button proposes takes you. In this case a cgi form for entry.

Again, alarm bells, anyone who does that does so for a reason. Sometimes innocently wanting to know how many want it, but mostly Data Mining.

Yes, spam and such.

Oh and by the way, the book is aimed at Linux servers, not OS's. You know, the servers the web pages come from etc.

You are right. I am so naive. See the reason my user name is Nooby.
I am a kind of Evergreen Nooby Smile Embarrassing indeed. I try to edit the
title of the thread. Flash has to be very happy about it I hope.

Not a problem nooby, you were trying to be helpful.

Most users would probably think twice before clicking on a button on a webpage anyway.

We are all learning continuously.
