How to drag & drop menu items to JWM desktop? Subject description: Teachin the puppy a new trick |
|
What would it take to add in JWM to enable user to click on an app icon in the menu panel, & drag & drop it on the desk ?
E17 in Mac Pup does it, but I'd love to have this feature in JWM and Openbox.

There is a way to put an icon on the desktop for the menu item you want there. It's fairly simple but not as simple as dragging the item from the menu.
I'm no expert so there may be better ways, but I'd find where the executable file is located (usually /bin or /usr/bin), then drag the executable onto the desktop and replace its gear icon with whatever I wanted. You can tell which is the executable you want by clicking on it where you find it to see if the menu item starts. The executable file remains where you found it; dragging it onto the desktop only creates a link to it from the desktop icon. Deleting the icon from the desktop does not remove the executable file from where it was to start with.

Thanks darkcity, i'll ask them.
Flash, thank you, this is what I usually do.
It works fine, but drag & drop saves time and hassle.

Go to /usr/share/applications and drag and drop the app you want to the desktop. If you want, right click on the resultant icon and change whatever you like.
Dont forget Rox supports bookmarks, so bookmark /usr/share/applications for quick access that you wont forget.
