athene with puppy

#1 Post by HyPeR »

Downloaded ATHENE desktop edition from http://www.rocklyte.com/downloads.html

and installed it on puppy. giving me a few new apps and games like quake
doom and tetris etc.. After unziping the file , open rxvt (terminal) and cd to the newly unzipped Athene directory and type " sh install.sh " after install
open a terminal and type : athene (better to logout and start the desktop)
I also downloaded the SDL libraries and games onto puppy and then once in Athene located and installed them . is much fun for HyPeR !! 8)

Athene is commercial? Did you have to pay for it?
How big is it?

I'm a little confused...Is Athene a full OS or a desktop/window manager? I did read that it uses something other than X. What are the benefits of installing this over just installing the various applications such as Quake or Open Office, etc? I do like the idea of playing Quake on Puppy though :-D

Athene is a full operating system (commercial version only) however ....
they offer a limited version "athene desktop version" that runs a few x11 apps
kinda like a test drive . when its downloaded and installed on puppy its more like a window manager/desktop , but ..... once i installed athene , I started the desktop and installed SDL and the games I previously downloaded with athenes quick install .If you locate the athene folder in rox athene/games you can run the games in puppy without starting athene.
