108 gameCD 2

#1 Post by kirk »

I've updated the game ISO to include Tempestuous mach64 updates and the proprietary Nvidia (geforce & quadro) driver. The ISO now creates a pup777 file instead of a pup001. I removed the Reaction quake mod and added usr_devx, glxgears, and the pup777 zip file for NTFS. So now it's a 270MB download. If you select the Nvidia option from the xorgwizard it mounts usr_devx from the CD and runs the Nvidia installer / compiler.

Might support these cards:

* ATI Rage 128 cards 3D Rage Fury, 3D Rage Magnum, XPERT 2000, XPERT 128, XPERT 99, All-in-Wonder 128
* ATI r100 Radeon, Radeon VIVO, Radeon VE, Radeon 7800 or below
* ATI r200 Radeon 8500 to 9250, FireGL 8700/8800
* ATI Mach64 3D Rage Pro, 3D Rage LT Pro, 3D Rage XL, 3D Rage Mobilit, XPERT 98/LCD/XL, XPERTOPlay/Work, All-in-Wonder Pro
* ATI r300 Radeon 9500-9700
* Intel i810/i815 chips
* Intel i915 chips
* Matrox G200/G400 cards, Millenium G200 to G450, Mystique G200
*Nvidia (geforce & quadro)
* SIS cards
* 3dfx Voodoo 3/4/5 cards, Banshee, Velocity 100/200
* S3Savage, Savage3D, SavageMX/IX, Savage4, Supersavage, Prosavage/Twister/DDR
* Via unichrome

(Use 16bit color during setup, some cards only support DRI in 16bit)

I tested it on a Nvidia Geforce fx go5200, ATI Radeon 7500, 8000, & 9250 (r100 & 200). Can run ram boot only

All games are launched from the Start menu and run off the CD with out having to install them. Games included:

Quake 3 -- This is the icculus.org version of the GPLed ID software code compiled from svn (CVS) on 3/11/06. It includes the ID software Demo game data and some extra bots.

Armagetronad -- A tron light-cycle game, supports network/internet play. Updated to latest version.

D2X -- A 3D space shooter. Includes shareware data. You'll want to adjust the screen size, it's under options, screen res.

Supertux -- Popular knock-off of Super Mario Bros.

Tuxmath -- Math game for 6-9 year olds.

bzflag --- A FPS tank game, supports network/internet play.

ppracer --- A fork from Tux Racer. Compiled from CVS 4/2006.

Can't get the games to work

#3 Post by genoobie »

Games are not usually my thing and I've already spent far too much time on this already, but, I booted up the CD everything went okay, but I can't get the games to run, I adjusted the CD-ROM setup and now if I click on a game it spins the CD but that's it. Loaded into RAM. Thanks, Sam

The games won't run if 3d acceleration is not working. What kind of video card do you have? What does "I adjusted the CD-ROM setup" mean?

Action Quake 2

#5 Post by Chuck the Plant »

Please oh please add Action Quake 2 to this pack. An easy to set up Linux version of AQ2 would be heaven! Especially if it included good LAN support.

There's a not-too-bad Win version at http://action.marsmodule.com/ but I'd like to leave Windows behind forever. AQ2 is one of my last remaining ties to the Microsoft world. An AQ2 Puppy would save me!

If you have problems with installation, tell me.
The tar.bz2 should include instructions (had not look yet at it).

Quake2 itself is a dotpup:
http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?t=7013
You need:

quake2.pup
QuDos.pup
quake2launch.pup
(optional) quake2max-0.45.pup
(recommended, but huge) quake2-retexture.pup

To use it with my Quake2-launcher:
extract the actionquake.tar.bz2 to /usr/local/quake2

This creates a new folder
/usr/local/quake2/action

Now create a new textfile
/usr/local/quake2/modlaunch/mod_actionquake2

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh
#action
cd ..
./quake2.sh +game action
Then start the quakelauncher, and you can select actionquake in the list on the left.
Click on one of the engines like "QuDos" to start it.
This will start the Quake2-console, so hit "escape" to enter the setup-screen.
Choose "multi" to set up a networkgame.

ah I see, I thought you mean kaos.
I tried the q2p-binary, but can not run iz as root.
Now I try to compile it myself, maybe I can alter the source.
I had to remove the ogg-support, as it gives errors during compilation.
I'll keep you informed, if it works.
Thanks :) Mark

ok, works.
Water looks good, shadows too, fog too.
You cannot setup the options in the menu, but must edit q2e.cfg

I will try some different values, and make a dotpup then.

Unfortunately it does not support particles? (smoke, realistic explosions)

Dude, thanks a lot ;)

Runs very nice, i've noticied that default water reflection was set to 1, set to a valor 0.3 to 0.7 and also water_surf to 1 or 0, was set to 0.3.

I sent an email to the creator about your inclusion in puppy distro and asking please don't stop the develop, i'll cross the fingers.

Browsing and searching for qudos/quake2 i've found some recent threads in gentoo forums
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-477984.html

What about a kmquake2 Dotpup Mark, very nice engine. QuDos engine looks like is officialy accepted in gentoo ebuilds, good point.

There are some other quake 1 engines out there in his site and i've found this, no luck, the link was removed
http://www.quakeone.com/forums/showthre ... 344&page=6

Oops, my boss ajajjaa.

:wink:

Nice to see is working fine in other distros, i'm downloading now this iso to try it.

Mark, looks like you had some problemsrunning/compiling at the first time, well the no access to root is a feature that can be modified or removed. Well, you did it.

About OggVorbis, what problem you have? i guess is not needed to say that you need ogg devel pacakge installed, if you was able to compile QuDos engine, this mod includes the same code.

At the moment is stopped, but is in mind to add some particle system and some other enhanced features.

I said by email to Malbicho about Qrack sources, well the main reason to remove the file was the no interest from qrack creator, when the version 1.53 was released i sent him an
email about running on linux, never an answer, now with 1.6 released, the same situation, he simply no show interest in another os's, so this is like a boikot, no qrack for now.

I'l come back to report my experiences with Puppy, sure.

Cheers.

QuDos,
I have 2 Puppy-systems, a newer Puppy2, and a old Puppy1, that has grown with libraries in the last month.
I will try to compile again in Puppy1, maybe I installed all the libs there.
More info tomorrow.
Thanks for your nice engine :-)

Note, to compile applications, you need an addon:
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/Compiling

Download this:
http://dotpups.de/puppy-releases/2.01/development/

Put it in /mnt/home and reboot (if you use the Live-CD, harddisk-installations might require additional steps).
This should automatically mount it, try
gcc
to check if it is was mounted :)

Ok, done.

Yeah, too bad from my side, the problem with ogg vorbis was because vorbisfile was
not calling to vorbis and ogg, so add -lvorbis and -logg to OGG_LDFLAGS in the Makefile and you are right.

Would be intesting if sdl-config is included in puppy, but ok, builds w/out vga and runs fine too.

Looks like there is some issue with glx and fullscreen, can't get fullscreen, the same with quake 3, maybe something in xorg.

Now a question, i booted with option 5, first boot, hod do i to save the configs, net, xorg, ...? =)

Very good work and fast distro, great.

ok, will try this evening with ogg-support.

SDL-config should be in
http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?t=2482 (headers and static)

GLX:
No problem until now, I tried freedesktop-drivers and Atis fglrx (9250 only) with Ati Radeon 7000 and 9250.
Only problem with fglrx in Puppy2: Some games like Doom3 freeze the whole system after 10 minutes; this does not happen with Quake or in Puppy1.

Did you install the DRI-support using this wizard?:
http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?t=8661

If you have any other questions getting things to work, just ask, it can be confusing to search in the forums ;)
