#1 Post by EZ4arabs »

I need to install this package:
http://www.arabeyes.org/project.php?proj=Katoob
its for BSD but can it work on puppy? it says on that page it it will work with most linux's distro.
here is what i get when trying to install.it might give you an idea what do I need to have for it to work.

Code: Select all

# ./configure
checking for a BSD-compatible install... ./install-sh -c
checking whether build environment is sane... yes
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... no
checking for working aclocal-1.4... missing
checking for working autoconf... missing
checking for working automake-1.4... missing
checking for working autoheader... missing
checking for working makeinfo... missing
checking for intltool >= 0.18... 0.30 found
checking for perl... /usr/bin/perl
checking for XML::Parser... configure: error: XML::Parser perl module is required for intltool
can you please help me ?!
Thank you.

you need (easy way):
Full-Perl ( 9 Mb, 34 MB extracted): http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Programming/Perl.pup

Or (more complicated) try to install only xml::parser via MCPAN, see instructions here:
http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?t=4193

Code: Select all

checking whether build environment is sane... yes
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... no
checking for working aclocal-1.4... missing
checking for working autoconf... missing
checking for working automake-1.4... missing
checking for working autoheader... missing
checking for working makeinfo... missing
checking for intltool >= 0.18... 0.30 found
checking for perl... /usr/bin/perl
checking for XML::Parser... ok
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH
See `config.log' for more details.
I gave up on it becuase still a little puppy when it comes to linux besides i like puppylinux the way its and all what i need arabic for is to write short stories for the web.so i came up with that crazy idea searching the forum to find dosbox and i had a dos urdu WP that i used for years on my trusty 386 and now I'm a happy puppy except i can't save the file name in arabic but no big deal then i added windows arial font to /usr/share/fonts/default/type1 and now i can view it on leafpad as you can see from the image below.
for those who want to type short stuff in Arabic/Hebrew/Greek :

Ahlan we salan,
Sorry, my error, sorry

If you want to compile, but get an error that xml::parser is missing, then you don't have the developper-addon.
So Perl only will not help, as you need the C Compiler, too.
All together is in usr_devx.sfs (Puppy1) or devx_201.sfs (Puppy2).
Details:
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/Compiling

I compiled Katoob for you.
Dotpup (172 kb):
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Text_Editors/Katoob-0.3.8.pup

I did not compile syntax-highlight and spellcheck, as that would require additional libraries.
Tell me, if you need that.

Screenshot:

Image

I found out, that Puppy crashes, if you use LANG=ar_BH , when you try to "save as". Same in leafpad. If you set LANG=ar_BH.utf8 , everything is ok.

As you can see in the titlebar, I could save the document with an arab name.

I uploaded your online-keyboard here:
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Text_Editors/ ... yboard.htm

Thank you very much brother.
i had another way around arabic support in puppy which is to install wine (if the user have windows installed on another partition )and then i executed it from the console to run a nifty application for windows that doesn't require arabic language support to be installed (stand alone application).
but I'm having a little problem with as mentioned in that thread;
http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?p=58884#58884

Thank you again my friend.
by the way can you or any any one here that understand arabic can read this:

I can not understand your last sentence, as I don't speak arabic, only some expressions I learned on my jouneys in egypt and algeria, like shoukran or swahalcher.
Algeria was back in 1987, when it was safe to travel there, but the events lateron made me fear to go there again
I met very friendly people there, so I'm quite sad about it.

But I can see the arabic chars in my webbrowser.

It seems the whole world gone mad ,Its the year 2006 and we as human didn't evolve that much from what humans were thousands of years ago.

when are we going to get it through our heads that violence and wars never solved anything.
It starts with you and I and if people started to talk it out. we claim to be a civilized we use devices and tools so advanced and we are able to learn new computer's languages and coding and scripting but yet we still can't learn (or won't) try to learn how to solve our problems peacefully and in a civilized manner
can't we all just get along........apparently not

I was sentenced to 7 years(was lucky didn't lose my head just because my family had connections) just because i used lyrics from a song by the the Beatles to teach kids English......now I'm losing faith............in everything and it makes me wonder ?!
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
Thanks again for your help my good friend.

You have no idea how glad I am to find puppyliux, not just because it works so well for me and i get everything i needed done on it but what is most important to me is the people here.
Its so beautiful and it fills my heart with joy seeing people from all over the world ......Germany;UK;Australia ;India;Israel;Arabs,Danish.....etc all working together and united to make what they love and care about the best distro ever.
Maybe, just maybe there is hope for this world.

We must give peace a chance,we should look for the good in people and be courageous enough to take the first step. we must and we should because we belong to the same race no matter how different we look from the outside.
maybe everyone on Earth should get puppylinux. its an operating system that works well and unit people and thats what we need an international operating system, one with out politicians willing to see thousands or even millions die just to bring their twisted agenda to reality.

Thank you Mark for the nice words and Thank you RR Koothady for your kind words.

http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?t=9536
http://edu.arabsgate.com/showthread.php?t=347586
/tmp
wine /tmp/win311/setup.exe

maybe everyone on Earth should get puppylinux
We need more Puppytude (Good attitude caused by using Puppy)

In fact it might be a good idea to form the Puppy Peace Corp to provide Puppy to those forced to use exasperating software.

Ez4Arabs & Salem
Don't you think it would be more appropriate if you guys continued your chat using some other ways of communication such as whatever messenger you guys use or through emails.
when you post in Arabic I doubt you will get any help since it appears that none of the experts here knows Arabic.
one more thing Ez4arabs and that is i noticed you attach large images (in this thread and others you posted in)that doesn't seem to show anything useful in helping solve the problem.did you know that images like that uses lots of bandwidth that puts more load on the owner of this forum who kindly providing it for free.
just my 2

If you don't know Arabic how do you know that what Salem and I posted just chat?
and again if you don't know Arabic why would you assume that the images i attached are useless?
and it goes without saying that any puppylinux user specially new ones really appreciated what the owner of this forum is doing and you are not the only one who knows what does it take to run such a big forum money and time wise.
secondly i don't see a rank under your name which indicates that you are not an admin or a moderator in this forum and not to mention the fact that none of the admins said anything about ""us wasting the forum's resources or the expert's time.
peace to you too Q.
and now back to our discussion .

Localisation posts are designed for people using other languages. We prefer posts in local languages and English - even here. If that is not possible that is fine.
With communication through the net and through a language it is important to remember everyone is trying to be helpful in some way.

My browser is not set up for Arabic, Hebrew or Chinese script. For those using these languages it must be wonderful to come across posts in their native language ;)

Keep up the great work :)

I don't know much and in fact comparing to you i know nothing so feel free to laugh@what i said.
here is a package for the fonts i mentioned above:

Sorry, I have overseen some messages, as the forum had some reload-problems.

In general, english is preferred here.
But especially in this localization-forum posting in other languages is ok.

1.) we have many users of different cultures, so if something "bad" should be posted, we quickly would be informed by those users who understand it.
2.) the arab posts already imply by the embedded links, that the topic is how to get arab working in linux, so it is absolutely ok and ontopic.

Concerning pictures:
Pictures are ok, or we would deactivate them.
But if possible, scale them down to max. 640x480 pixel.
This makes the forum faster for Dialup-users, and helps saving space for programs.

Some people use http://imageshack.us to upload pictures, this allows to use thumbnails like here for example:
http://fvwm.lair.be/viewtopic.php?t=1560

Best wishes to all contributors here :)
Mark
