The question I think is: who cares about size nowadays, when the apps live outside of the save file?jemimah wrote: Compiling everything as a portable app is convenient for the user, but not small.
How much longer will we try to cramp modern apps into an archaic and questionable file system?
In the end only the user's convenience will count. Not some theoretical or historically grown concept.
More importantly, how will Linux ever become more mainstream, if it cannot come up with some sort of apps standard that works for everyone, everywhere? I've seen huge wastes of time and energy in the many linux forums I follow, because of old and stubborn patterns obstructing progress.
I don't pretend to know the answers, these are just my observations after years of patient reading.
