New versions of Microsoft's Internet Explorer will "silently" update in the background. Users will have no say about whether to install or approve the updates beforehand, though one can opt out of the update behavior. Seems heavy handed, but isn't Chrome doing something similar when the defaults are accepted?

MS Win7 is silently updating itself with Service Pack 1, and there is nothing you can do about it...

I love how these new EULAs have clauses that say they can change the terms at any time.

Worse - Windows 8 apps can be deleted remotely by Microshaft, since, though you bought it, they own it!

I for one will not get 8 or 9 or .....
Traditionally every second OS from M$ is rubbish.
Win3.1 ( ok for it's time), 95 (crap), 98 (much better), M.E. (abysmal),
XP (good), Vista (horrific), 7 (a tad better), 8 (I can just imagine).
In between they also released the more "corporate" type OSes like
NT and 2000, the same pattern pretty much applies:
NT (utter rubbish), 2000 (much more stable), 2003 (does anyone use it?),
2008 (the definition of bloatware).
Now we also have to endure this on some smartphones since they have
taken over Nokias software coding.
It's like a monster in a low budget horror movie, it just keeps on coming back.
