Which driver for HP 4550 printer in Slacko? :Solved

Howdy all, First time poster. New to linux, don't know much about computers in general. Puppy seems to answer my needs quite well though. Trying to get my HP 4550 All-in-One printer working on Puppy. I've read the tutorials on this forum and thus found the HPLIP website that should contain my needed drivers. The first question they ask is what distribution of Linux am I using. The options on their drop-down list are as follows: Boss Debian Fedora IGOS Linpus Linux Linux from scratch Linux Mint Mandriva Linux Mepis PCLinuxOS Red Hat Red Hat Enterprise Linux SUSE Linux Ubuntu gOS Puppy Linux is not listed. I'm using Slacko 5.3.1 on an Acer laptop Intel Pentium P6100 processor 250 GB HDD 3 GB DDR3 RAM My dumb quistion is this: What distribution should I select, or from what distribution is Puppy 5.3.1 descended? Hmmmm.... two days later and 38 views, seems as though no one else knows the answer either. Reckon I don't feel quite so dumb now...

Hello, and welcome to puppy linux. For example: lucid puppy is ubuntu based, so it can use the ubuntu .deb files. I don't know on what linux slacko is based. But lobster seems to be a developer or otherwise involved expert for slacko. Maybe sending him a private message, to get him informed about your issue. Got it. I had overlooked the link provided by rcrsn51 to the CUPS localhost:631. Once I got there, it went smoothly. I told you I was new at this stuff. Thanks again, Joe |
