gftp uses a gui and can't be used in scripts, curl is for connecting a ftp-site to the directory tree.

I have never used it as such but i believe Midnight Commander file manager has a built in ftp client.

Midnight Commander has ftp built in and Aragons compiled versions works also. I have done ftp transfers with it.

what about the basic ftp cli prog included in the big distros, FTP.

I tried NCFTP from here http://www.ncftp.com/download/
.unpack it to your desired dir, /usr/bin/ or something. Go to that directory with ROX and right click "terminal here". You need to install it with
Then in the terminal type By default i think the puppy terminal will open this in a browser like firefox or such.
