You shouldn't need to install a pet for lupu528, just try running the boot manager, adding the r8187se module, then rebooting. The pet Aitch was referring to is for an older kernel than the one lupu528 has.

Hi Muggins,
Menu, system, Bootmanagerconfigure bootup, and I have a new window "Boot manager". On this window, in the second part of it (load kernel modules), I click on "click to add a new module", then I have a new window "BootManager : module add-list manager", with a list. In this list, I find rtl8187 (but no rtl8187se). I add rtl8187. And it moves from the list to the right. I click on it, and I click on "OK".
I have a new window "Bootmanager : edit module addlist" which says : "if you wish, add any required parameter to these modules. Example : mmc_block major=179. If you don't know what this means, just click"OK" button". In the white part of the window, I see "rtl8187". I click on "OK". I reboot.
During the boot, I see a line : "loading user selected module.....rtl8187.
On the desktop, I click on "connect".
on the new window "simple Network setup", in "Interfaces" I still see on the last line (just over "etho" "wlan0" "windows") :
"wlan0 Wireless r8180 x x"
So, the 8187 has no replaced the 8180. I click on wlan0, I have just "please wait, scanning for wireless network" and nothing more....
I feel, I'm very close to the solution..... but I still don't have it !!!
I hope my english isn't too much bad and that you can help me to find the final solution.
Thank you

In my post. I mention how simple network manager gave me problems also. I used Dougals Connection Wizard instead.

gilloraymondo,

No, it should have been r8187se, not rtl8187. If you see this link:

http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/rtl8187

They say:

Quote:
Unsupported Chips

RTL8187SE PCI (0x10ec:0x8199): This device will work with the r8187se driver

So you need to run Bootmanager>Click to add new module again, then highlight rtl8187, in the Right pane, then click Remove, then scroll down the list until you find r8187se, in the Left pane, then highlight it, click Add, then OK, then reboot.

I reach to the rigth window.
But on the list, at the left side, I find the r6040, the r8169, the r8192_pci,
but the r8187se isn't there ...

That driver is in Slacko, so I'm surprised it's not in 528/004

menu/system/bootmanager configure bootup, select load kernel modules, click here to add a module, scan down for r8187se driver

I try, I try again and again, I search, I search again and again, and, still I can't connect my asus 701sd to wi fi with lucid puppy 528. The rtl8187se isn't recognised.
With puppy linux 431, I had the same problem but I downloaded the rtl8187se-k2.6.30.5.pet, and it has solved the problem.
But with lucid puppy (I tried the 5, the 528-004-2, the 525, the 528, the lucid retro 525), my wi fi module isn't recognised.
In the bootmanager the r8187se doesn't exit, when I want to add a module.
If I go on "blacklist a module, I find it at the left side. S it's there !!!!! and not blaclisted.
How can I activate it ?
To solve the problem just the same way I did it with puppy linuw 431, I searched during hours, a rtl8187se-k2.6.30.5.pet, but I find nothing
Can you help me ?
Thank you

Not sure why r8187se isn't showing in your bootmanager list? The screenshot, above, was taken with p528-004.

Can you run:

Code:
lsmod > modules.txt

and post the result here?

I find it very strange that the wifi is not working in lupu.

I have an eee-701SD and it has worked with every puppy since 431 with no special loading of modules, works out of the box, however, Barry's SNS has never worked with it (as mentioned by rok), I almost always use Dougal's Network Wizard and on occasion Frisbee.

I would suspect gilloraymondo that some filesystem corruption has crept into your install. Perhaps it would be best to save what you can out of your pupsave (lupusave) and start fresh.

If you do this, cancel the SNS window and open the menu, navigate to Setup>Internet Connection Wizard. Select the Wired or Wireless Network button in the window. Then select Network Wizard. Your interface should then show up as wlan0. Proceed to set up your network.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much 0Micko,
You're right !!!!
The Simple Network Manager does'nt work on the Asus Eee PC 701sd !!!
It's the default internet connexion wizard and it must replaced by the Dougal system.
I had some problems to understand everything because it wasn't quite clear for me for severals reasons : english isn't my first language, I'm not very clever on the computers, and, I didn't understand at first what was the "Dougal" system. For all these reasons,I had problems too, to understand when speaking, for instance, about the "SNS" instead of "simple network setup"........
Well, I'm probably not the only one coming here and who have another language than english as first language and who is'nt clever on computers.
For theses reasons, I write below, with simple words, how to do :
Click on the menu, select "configuration", on the new window at the right side, click on "Internet Connexion Wizard". Then click on "Internet by wired or wireless LAN", then choose "Network wizard", and NOT "simple Network setup", select your wi fi, and click on it below, then click on "auto DHCP", and clic on "yes", then back on the previous window, you have just to enter you key, and select the system (WEP, or WPA/TKIP, or WPA2".( If you want to scan another wi fi network, look well there, you can choose to scan) That's all !!!! Click on the internet Browser and it works !!!!!
Thank you again OMicko !!!!
