Sound disappeared from 525; possible fix (it worked for me.)

#1 Post by Ed Howdershelt »

I run Puppy 5.2.5. Sound stopped working today. Just a little 'x' by the speaker icon.

This evening I found a Youtube video that showed me how to get sound back. It says Puppy 5.10, but it worked with 5.2.5 for me.
I don't know if the fix will survive a reboot. Yet.

Open the console, type what he types on the screen.
My Puppy didn't like the 5 he used in the last line of his typing, so I retyped the line with a 4.
It worked. Sound is back.
No idea why or how, but my tunes work. :)

Oh, well. It worked for me.

re:Kiel... I was an ambulance driver at Landstuhl in late 1972. One of the German women who worked in the JAG office was from Kiel. She had a brother in the German Navy and he was going to be home for Christmas.
She was going to go home by train and she had a lot of stuff she was going to ship up there so I showed her my 1966 Mercedes 220SB. It had a huge trunk that would hold a horse or two. :)
We stopped to pick up her sister in Hamburg. It was the first real 'family' style Christmas I'd had in years.
We also found some time to tour Kiel during the holidays.
I often wish I'd never left Germany.
Then I remember some of the winters. :)

How I patched my Lucid 5.2.8 operating system so my sound would work after rebooting. On a Compaq Pavilion XH485 laptop **Note in order for this patch to work ALSA sound wizard must find your sound card at least once.** In my case I had to run wizard every time I rebooted if I wanted sound.

I looked at the “/etc/init.d/10alsa

Do you guys need a small view of the files in question?[/quote]

I don't, but they might help someone else.
My fix worked, too. Still have sound.
