puppylinux.info is now closed (a measure to cool people's heads and to let everyone reflect on what we want out of it).

Thank you all for your help.

EDIT: Closure was about 2012-01-14 0000 GMT, and as of this time, 0730 GMT, same day, the forum is read-only. I tried to keep displaying topics that I deemed helpful in the use of Puppy Linux or in creating a friendly atmosphere in the forum. If there are a few more topics that should be hidden, let me know. Thanks again.

Thanks Raffy for setting it up so swiftly and many thanks to everyone who participated as moderators and posters. 8)
Some of you might like to write to John Murga or Flash and offer your moderator services on this forum.
Look forward to reading the archives or reading the transfer threads ;-)

Thank you Raffy for having created Puppy Linux Help forum.
I deeply regret that you've closed it.
I hope we've all learned from this experience and that what we have learned helps us to build better Puppy Linux user communities.

PS: I also look forward to reading the archives.

I am also sorry to see puppylinux.info close and would also be interested in having a compressed archive file of the informative posts there.
I feel also for Big Bass in all the work he did to try to archive important information from this forum.

And a big thank you from me for supplying a backup forum in a time of need and continuing with it for as long as you did.

Thank you, Raffy.

Is there any chance for Read Only mode of puppylinux.info and any possibility to let only the developers to post there like Big_bass to back up their work?

Edit: There is a thread called Remaster CD or Remastering CD with collected and tested information all in one place in puppylinux.info. It is about a remastered copy of puppy linux with all the user changes included (as bookmarks, desktop default theme, passwords etc). If you have time to transfer this thread here it will be useful for this forum. I don't remember who opened that thread.

What a pity.
I would also like to have a copy of the archived file/s.

In the mean time one can use Google's cached pages.
Just tried it and it works and can even select a "text only" version
to make it easier to archive them,

Perhaps someone would be interested in creating a similar forum
using bbPress, http://bbpress.org/
and Awardspace as the hosting server:

Dave_G, I attach archive with your monitor forum script + modified version from SFR and SIT script from SFR. There is a version for monitoring this forum.
Thanks to both of you. :)

Thank you saintless for posting it here.

I'm rather curious as to what motivated Raffy to close the forum
after his decision for self moderation, which seemed to be going OK.
I didn't log on at all on Friday, so perhaps I missed something.

Hi Dave,

The nonsense started up again, I left, and raffy decided that enough was enough.

Cheers,
koolie.

Thanks for the update koolie although IMHO it was unfair to spoil it for everyone
by closing the whole forum just because of a handful of degenerates.

Maybe Raffy will reconsider, re-open the forum, appoint some admins
with explicit instructions to be more firm and not think twice about
deleting posts and/or banning those that cannot behave.

I think puppylinux.info served an important role, not only as a backup
forum but also had a more relaxed atmosphere about it.

I always viewed puppylinux.info as the "village", this forum as the "big city"
and linuxquestions.org as the "megalopolis".

@saintless

In read only mode which at least will allow us to backup the info.

Thankfully he has removed the thread that caused all the damage.

Re:AwardSpace..
Have you read their terms of service? :(

I was going to setup a site for another purpose, but I'll keep looking.
Getting harder to find good hosting now.

Raffy, I can still post there. I did that a few seconds ago. See here:

The thread was updated on the first page with my last post.

@koolie

I haven't read all of the terms, but I'm sure that they are no worse
or better then a majority of other providers.

I have been using them for several years and can honestly say I've
never had reason to complain.

@saintless

How on earth did you manage that as the main log-in page has been taken away.
The only reason I can think of is that you were still logged in when Raffy
closed the site and hence your php session is still valid.

reopen and hosting

#16 Post by raffy »

Let's give it a week and then let's see what we think by then.

Here's an excellent hosting that I recently discovered (ubserversDOTcom). Runs lightspeed and has US$25/year VPS, hah, unbelievable. Their low-cost VPS deserves a topic here (please PM me when you start one).

EDIT: @saintless - you're the lucky guy. :)

I think saintless' php session ID is still valid, so unless others were also
logged in as Raffy closed the site/made it R.O. then they can't post.

We could take that as ominous sign that the forum will live on if you take it under your care. :)
