I found driver for my intel card as well as several others at

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_ ... 7&lang=eng

How do I compile so it will work in this puppy?

Just for informational purposes, that nic uses the

Code: Select all

tulip : Digital 21*4* Tulip ethernet driver
that I posted about earlier.
Ok - will give that a try and report back.

That's the driver it uses, missing in action though in this release. :)

Just determined that - I found the Intel driver stated above but it is .tz file and needs to be compiled. Can you do that and post the driver?

Broadcom wifi driver not loaded so wlan unaccessible. Loaded module via network wizard and it then worked and survived boot.

Interesting thing is...3.1.8 in wuxiandianzi Lucid 5.2.8 based puplet and b43 autoloads. So...it really can be more of the recent woof problem than exactly kernel spesific. Although b43 autoloads with 2.6.39.4 and recent woof. Could there be some script which still needs patching for 3.X kernels. And why it seems to affect b43 only.

You will need patched acpitool source. Check Jemimah`s source folder in smokey01 repo.

For me SNS didnt launch. Xerrs.log reported this:
/usr/sbin/net-setup.sh: line 1683: scanpci: command not found

I grabbed the scanpci from the Out house and then the SNS started. Ath9k and atl1e found. Wireless with WPA works ok.

DOTconfig seems to miss whole tulip. No matches when I used search.
Annihilation of whole tulip family.

You seem to use aufs, like me with 3.1 kernel. Somebody could check if usb installation, booting and then pet installation using PPM and saving the pets is succesful. I mean are they still saved and usable after reboot. That has been the problem with aufs and 3.X kernels. Or maybe 01micko has already cured it.

New report for me:
# gnome-mplayer
GLib-GIO-Message: Using the 'memory' GSettings backend. Your settings will not be saved or shared with other applications.

I get these to the xerrs.log also. Just thought to report even if this release is mainly for net connections reporting. Shame me....

yeah, I already compiled gmome-mplayer 1.0.5 but didn't put it in, the problem is that "dconf" package isn't there, and I refuse to compile against the gconf bloat!

Actually, usb2 is not broken, In Jim's report there is "ERROR: modinfo: could not find module ehci_hcd"... that's because it's compiled into the vmlinuz (the kernel).

Ok, I've caught all the ethernet modules *I think* (realtek, tulip, broadcom and others), also iwlagn, wireless,

I'll take a look in STA see if there is new stuff.

@nooby.. the command is jwm -restart (with a space)
Anyway, I put a feature request in with Joe Wing to do an automatic restart of jwm and he has done it in jwm-svn-576 so I'm hoping this finally fixes that problem you have.

5.3.1.1

#32 Post by sszindian »

Hi Mic!

Looks like the makings of a good program 'Keep After It!'

One problem that I've never encountered in a puppy to date... while running 5.3.1.1 (maybe this is fixed in 5.3.1.2? haven't tried that one yet.)

eth0 'not' recognized Ethernet cable is plugged into computer and works with Slack0-5.3.1 and all other puppy's.

wlan0 'is' recognized however I don't have wifi router active but Linksys AE1000 Wireless-N Adopter is plugged into computer.

Hi Mick

Pristine manual frugal install using the 5.3.1.1 to 5.3.1.2 delta...

Can confirm that the "B43 not detected" problem is still there....but putting modprobe b43 into rc.local solves.

Let me know if I can test anything for you.

In case it helps, I've attached the /var/log/messages file from wuxiandianzi 's lupu528-k318 (remove .gz to fool forum)

Cheers
Peter

Slacko 5.3.2-alpha2 ..testing

#35 Post by Billtoo »

I did a manual frugal install to my acer revo nettop pc.
It went straight to the desktop at the correct resolution, using the
nouveau driver I think.
The builtin wireless adapter isn't supported,
Ralink corp. RT3090 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe.
I plugged in a linksys rt73 usb wireless adapter and it is working
well.
I installed the devx and kernel source sfs and the Nvidia driver for
the ION chip in this pc, it took an extra reboot and 2nd try to
compile the nvidia driver because the nouveau driver conflicts with
the proprietary nvidia driver, it did successfully compile after doing
that.

Edit after testing with correct cli command
nope that did not help.
I tested to use it prior to deciding timezone and keyboard
and tested it after that restart too and none of that helped.

The only thing that repair it is to edit out from xorg.conf the added
info which is kind of sad because a lot of that should be there and
I should only edit the part that make 1024 x 768 invisible.

But I have no idea how to do that.

In lupu528 it looks like this

#everything past here is auto-generated by Puppy's Xorg Wizard...
But in Slacko that part seems to be missing. Maybe it is another
file I should look in on slacko? I remember vaguely that I did borrow
a xorg.conf file from lupu to use in slacko last time to correct the
"feature" that I don't want to have. 1024 x 600. I want to ahve the

1024 x 768 instead.
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

Hi Mick,

Wow, that was a quick update. Frugal installations on my main desktop and my Dell Inspiron Laptop. Everything tested works fine including wifi and wifi printing. :D

I was able to compile the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-290.10.run after first removing the nouveau driver which is always a problem. Incidentally, sys-info reports that the vesa driver is being used regardless of driver used.

Hope that you will reinstate the ability to chose Numlock state in Personalize Settings.

Posting from laptop.

Cheers, :D
