New Sneekylinux video - Puppy's number one!
10. Hakui (He spell Haiku wrong) Haiku is a Be OS not linux
9. FreeNAS which is a Network Server based on FreeBSD
8. Aptosid which is a Debian Sid.
7. Austrumi which is based on Slackware from Latvia
6. Lubuntu 11.10 Ubuntu with LXDE window manager.
5. Bodhi Linux. A minimal Enlightenment17 Ubuntu version?
4. Sabayon 7. Gentoo but LXDE, E17 or Awesome wm.
3. MacPup528 Puppy with E17 and more...
2. TinyCore Which now are Core Plus? or Tiny Core or Micro?
1. Wary/Racy Puppy 522. I guess you know about Barry Kauler?
Haiku is new to me. DW says about it
I don't trust they even know about doing a frugal install?
Austrumi does that one have Swedish keyboard?

Haiku is new to me. DW says about it
Haiku is an open-source operating system,
currently in development, that specifically targets
personal computing.
Inspired by the Be Operating System (BeOS),
Haiku aims to become a fast, efficient, simple to use,
easy to learn and yet very powerful system for computer
users of all levels.

I am glad Austrumi is in there, very underrated.
Sneaky has improved his editing skills and seems to be using Openshot
(I am envious). It is always good to have a top ten recommendation from someone who fairly tries out, uses and is knowledgeable.
Guess what Saluki our newly emerging Puppy is based on? Racy - yep, Jemimah is on a winner . . .

New Sneekylinux video - Puppy's number one!
Hi all,
I don't want to sound "nitpicky", but Sneeky's #10 and #9 picks are not linux based distros at all. While Sneeky does explain this a little bit in his video he should change its title and edit out the word "linux" to avoid creating any sort of confusion amongst the viewers.
Nice to see Wary and Racy rated at the top... Maybe there will be some renewed interest in Puppy this year. At least, Puppy does not have to be concerned with the desktop controversy surrounding Unity, Gnome 3, etcetera...
Cheers,
Monsie

I am going to be argumentative here for the sake of clarity. In so doing, I am going to be "nixpicky" --pun intended.linuxbear wrote:While they may not be Linux, they are nonetheless 'nixMonsie wrote:Hi all,

It is my understanding that FreeNAS is based from FreeBSD. FreeBSD has its origins from BSD which sprang up as a variant of the Unix OS in the late sixties... So I give you that... FreeBSD is 'nix related.
Haiku OS is an effort at reviving BeOS which is very different from any Unix based operating system, and more info can be found at https://www.haiku-os.org/community/foru ... _questions for example.
I believe that if people learn to "say what they mean, and, mean what they say" then there will be a little less confusion and a little more understanding in this world.... not withstanding of course, that we are all human, and therefore all make mistakes.
I stand firm on my original point of my previous post.
Respectfully,
Monsie

I support that one need to be clear what is GNU Linux
and not just another kind of Unix variety.
Otherwise people get very disappointed.
Android is not Gnu as far as I know. But it make use of the Linux kernel with added things unique for Android?
Android being mainly for smartphones they start the boot
getting the Phone radio going so it is ready and then they
boot the linux and then the android and then the overlay
by the Carrier Operator if them have added such.
BADA and WebOS also have such unique overlay so
they are not GNU/Linux?
