Really impressed you're even adding various GTK engines. Can I help in anyway? Maybe dig up elusive icons for you or modify icon themes. I'm not too artistic, but I appreciate good looking eye candy.

I need help in selecting good themes. If you have an afternoon to spend on gnome-look testing themes, and finding the ones that look the nicest and most unique, then tell me what they are, I'd be happy to add them. Themes that use theme engines are much smaller and faster than pixmap themes.

I haven't figured out what to do to get translucent gtk themes - but in theory it should be able to work - someone could take a look at that .

We could also use some different xfwm styles.

And the xfce notifications are themable with gtk styles. We could use a number of new notification themes.

As far as iconsets go, there are a lot of nice looking ones in the eye candy thread, but a lot of them are missing icons or are done in 32x32 instead of 48x48.

I'm always looking for feedback and suggestions.

No. An Icon Editor is just a simple graphics program especially for icons.

F.E.: editing an icon sized 48x48 pix. Inside the icon editor the icon is shown as image, sized 480x480 pix. It is shown as matrix (we call that "Raster"). Every pixel of the icon is shown in the matrix as 10x10 pix area, so you can easily edit each and every single pixel of the icon.

In Windows i did use "icoFX". Unfortunately it does not run in wine.

Edit: sorry, my fault. It runs, but it can save only windows (.ico) and mac (.icns) files.

Icons tend to be designed using SVG nowadays. That way you can quickly generate the icon in any size you want. If you want to make icons from scratch, you should probably use Inkscape.

mtPaint will let you edit one pixel at a time if you zoom in far enough.

Gimp works very well too.

does anyone know how many icons are in puppy total? including taskbar icons & all those extra.

i could go through icon sets making sure they have the proper amount & required sizes then make themes out of them if needed.

GTK themes? I have a couple favorites that use Murrine or Aurora, other that I haven't tried out many engines. Maybe you could tell me what engines specifically you're planning to include, and I'll look for themes for them. The translucent Murrine themes sounds interesting, I can have a look at those.

For iconsets, I tend to see beyond just the simple desktop icons, to me a complete set includes GTK icons. A lot of the themes the desktop icons sets are made from are lacking in this department. But I guess that won't matter if there is an updated GTK theme over all. Just a thought.

These are the engines I have. Just ask if you want one that's not on the list.

You'll find the Karamba theme files in root under .kde/share/apps/karamba/themes/

In the themes folder are a config file and a folder called img

Lets say I want to use an icon called wfp.png simply copy it in to the img folder. The default icon size is 32x32

Now I get the impression you've worked that by right clicking on the Karamba sidebar and selected "edit configuration" the editor will open. To change the icon, navigate to img/kmess.png and change it to img/wfp.png
Now hit save.

On the Karamba sidebar right click and select "reload configuration" and you icon should appear.

Hello battleshooter,

I'll checkout the link, thanks!
Yeah, I found it, didn't think to look in a hiddenfolder under /root.

The .ico image I had for it was bigger than the standard, so I resized it and renamed it to .png in case that makes any difference. Thanks much.

Since I hardly ever use Libre (Open Office) there's what amounts to about 90 percent of the icons in karamba that are "free space" to put stuff that DOES get frequently used like Minesweeper, Shisen-sho, Maelstrom and Freecell. And the occasionally more productive tools.

Hi Jemimah,

Oily mackerel that's a lot of engines. I had a quick looking around at the themes available.

These engines kind of look old. Of course if you like them, that's totally fine, was just wonder if you knew what they look like, chunky, like Win95. Good for a retro look I suppose.

bluecurve
magicchicken

Are you planning to add all these engines just for the theme support they provide, or you're only looking for the good looking engines? (Good looking is subject to opinion)

On the other hand, these engines look pretty modern from screenshots:

Aurora
equinox
nodoka
moblin
murrine
rezlooks
TerraNova
gflat
(Edit: Clearlooks is great too, I'm just sick of it)

Sorry for all the questions.

I have pets for some gtk engines here
http://puppy.b0x.me/software/index.php? ... engines%2F

For those who don't know about site I collected lots of themes and wallpapers on my site here:
http://puppy.b0x.me/

There have been lots of new stuff probably on the forums since I haven't been much active lately (like you, john biles, I found puppy version that works for my PC, remastered it and now rarely trying new versions) but it's still much more browsable on my site and I think we already have many nice themes it's only question of taste and esthetic to put the right ones together. From all puppy releases I think 4.2 was the only official puppy release where I really liked the default setup.
And I agree few more MBs are not awefully much for good look, or reducing number of default wallpapers and themes if the default one hits the spot.
But not everyone's taste is alike.
Lately I much more like clean desktop with wbar, I hate when wallpaper is too high contrast or busy - it will be there on your desk so it needs to be easy, soft and calm, so pleasant to look at. Curently I use Aurora theme, fluxbox with custom theme, wbar with Bluestep Humanity icons and wallpaper of mine

Image

For a while I was also obsessed with conky/lua setups, this was on kdpup though (kde3)

I was trying to get all the available engines, for maximum support. It probably does make sense to trim out the ugly ones.

Finally! Have regular internet back again!

Here are some Murrine themes. They're all basically the same, just different colors:

Pets can be found here.

I'm not sure if it's because I'm not running Metacity, but most of the Equinox and Aurora themes look similar. Haven't looked too deeply into them though.

Equinox:

Aurora:

I couldn't find any TerraNova themes except for the ones that come packaged with the engine. They're pretty cool though and the engine is really interesting:

Not sure if I've given you too many or too little themes for you to peruse.
