Many thanks jpeps, as I say I feel it was probably something else in memory, probably via transmission bit torrent.

Wait just a minute . . . I did access a Mac USB keydrive yesterday . . .
could my computer have been channeling a ghostly Jobs?

No worries. Thanks for compiling and info :)

Just got Compiz working (not perfectly - the windows had no 'outer bar' to close resize etc.) Wobbling and other effects working - this is on a nearly pristine install of Slacko 5.3.1

Compiz working fine
Thanks smokey
That seems most peoples experience. Not sure if my difficulties are AMD 64bit chip or ATI crystal drivers or my own incompetence.

Quite happy without compiz, so not too concerned . . .

Trying to find record my desktop or similar at the moment
. . . OK back to the search . . . :)

Here is the latest version of Wbar,
it now comes with it's own Wbar Config GUI (see pics)

I compiled it in Slacko-5.3.1

It still requires that imlib2 is installed,
so i attach a .pet which i made from the slackware imlib2-1.4.4-i486-1tm.txz package.

After installation, go to: Menu > Desktop > Wbar Config
then click on the Reload button
and the Wbar should appear at the top of your screen.

CatDude
.
Thanks for this version of wbar with Wbar Config GUI , however, it appears to need a link to /usr/bin/wbar placed in the Startup directory. Otherwise, it works great and the GUI really helps.

Cheers,
Jim

Great to see compiz has been added to a mainstream Puppy, if it is easier to setup in future puppies, that could help the user base grow a bit - I have seen so many times how popular compiz is...

Although for me, compiz was the first 'annoyance' that I disabled when forced to use Ubuntu at work... Everyone else wanted it on, cos they liked wobbling, transparency, flashy alt-tab menus, etc... Drove me mad... lol...

megaupload

#250 Post by gulk »

As you've probably seen in the news, megaupload is in trouble for piracy... I used it a bunch of times to put some .pet there.

I am not going to apologize because my use of the above mentioned site was genuine and in no way related to piracy. However, if someone would like to get to these pet files, I am not sure how to provide them anymore.

Any suggestions?

Hmm...There could be somekind Official Puppy releases section.
Yes...I know...no more new sections...there is already too much of them....but....Official Releases should have their needed place.
Barry uses bugs section for feedback. Lucid Puppy and Slacko are Official Releases and they are in Puppy Projects where are other non-official projects.

Also to elaborate...there could be Official Wannabees section also....and...then there could be....lol

But....Lets Slacko have it`s original place where it has been developed and granted as one of the Official Puppies.

How about setting up a dropbox account? http://www.dropbox.com/
The free version will give you 2GB of space and you can upload the files using any modern web-browser.

Yes, there should be a section for official pups and their beta-release versions. I think it would be easier if all other pups, were combined and moved to one separate section; Perhaps the Puppy Projects section. Right now, we find pups scattered in the following sections: Bugs, Derivatives, Puppy Projects, Announcements.
Indeed, there are too many sections and it makes for less-efficient browsing of this forum.

Another idea is to have one main category for all Pups and Derivatives, and to have sub-categories under the main one. This is how the Additional Software section is organized and I think it works good that way.

Explain this, someone! Using Slacko 531 on a Thinkpad T60p.
Driver is Radeon, default screen resolution is 1680x1050, but I prefer 1280x800. Whenever I succeed in getting Xorg to set to 1280x800, it reverts to the higher resolution next time it boots. However, I installed the Meta driver pet. Now somehow I have 1280x800 permanently, but Xorg.conf still shows 1680x1050. If I go to the xorg resolution changer, that shows the current resolution as 1280x800. And if I type xrandr in the terminal, that shows 1280x800 as current too.

I'm happy, got what I want, but how????

EDIT: forgot- report-video shows 1680x1050. I suppose it looks at xorg.conf.

Okay, Slacko's not a derivative of Puppy. What is it?

See http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=02621

Barry says:
Slacko Puppy 5.3, our flagship Puppy, premiered on October 25, 2011:
http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=02556

There are many flavours (builds, editions) of Puppy Linux, but "Flagship" means basically that we recommend this pup as a "first-stop" for newcomers (unless you have older hardware and might want to go for our Wary Puppy, or some particular need that attracts you to one of our other Puppy builds).

Slacko has had a very good reception, but as always there are things that can be improved, and Project Coordinator Mick Amadio has now released Slacko 5.3.1, a minor upgrade and bugfix release.
Definitely should be in the Projects section...;.
ImageLxPup = Puppy + LXDE
Main version used daily: LxPupSc; Assembler of UPups, ScPup & ScPup64, LxPup, LxPupSc & LxPupSc64
