Chromium / Iron on 5.3.1.3

#181 Post by peebee »

Hi Mick

Just a quick note that on slacko5.3.1.3:

chromium-18.0.996.0-slacko.pet segfaults

iron-16.0.950.0-slacko.pet doesn't - runs OK

from the pet_packages-slacko repository

Cheers

Most likely does not have the proper firmware for your chip.
Hmm - did that and had a look at the advice therein, and now I'm thinking if I want to use a Puppy on this HP Mini it would be easier to buy a USB wireless stick.

Slacko 5.3.1.4 didn't see wlan0 on this laptop but I loaded the b43
module in network manager and setup the wireless connection, it's
working fine.

@Billtoo, there is a crucial mistake, reuploaded

Sorry aarf, your deltas are useless for b43 users (subsequent deltas from your copy of 5.3.1.4 will be useless too)

If you use b43 (broadcom wireless) please get the iso from the main post

I'm running from the live dvd with a save file.
Nvidia driver compiled okay after extra reboot.

0.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G98 [GeForce9300GE] (rev a1)

CPU frequency scaling utilty works.

Will test more later.

EDIT: I did a little personal preference customizing.
I installed the mesa pets (goggles needs libglu or something) and
glxgears works.
I tested some of the applications and no problems yet.
I like this release, it's working good so far.

# glxgears
7030 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1405.902 FPS
6987 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1397.370 FPS
7041 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1408.130 FPS

Hi Mick,

Manual installation on a ext4 partition on my desktop boots to a desktop fine, however alpha 4 does not recognize my wireless mouse. Laptop has same type of Logitech mouse which all previous versions have recognized. I've reverted back to Alpha 3 which works fine on both my desktop and laptop, both of which have i7 processors.

Regards,
Jim

Burned & saved to live CD.

So far everything is working well and... the 'SAVE' icon is staying on the desktop like it should... last version it disappeared after the first shutdown and went into automatic savefile gear on shutdown.

It's good to see many updated programs in this version!

Nice work Mic!!!!

Touchpad

#197 Post by yordanj94 »

Hi.
Probably i am doing something wrong, but how to enable tapping with my touchpad ?
I can only move my cursor, but to execute i have to right click.
Configuring my touchpad didn't do anything.
My laptop is DELL latitude c610.
I don't have that problem with LUPQ-511 and Lucid Puppy.
Thanks in advance.

Wobbly Boot in Slacko 5.3.1.4, yayyyy!!

#199 Post by russoodle »

Thanks for this one Mick....i was about to d/l 5.3.1.3 when it suddenly morphed into 5.3.1.4 in front of my very eyes

Very snappy on this modest 1.8GHz T42P, i like it very much.

I'm pleased to report that compiz is working a treat now, but initially i was experiencing the same issue as rhadon in this post, regarding the 2nd image and the "Software Rasteriser in use" error.

After entering the code you suggested, for turning on kernel modesetting, i rebooted, dropped to the prompt and fired up the dummy with roaring success :D

CatDude's patient assistance with aspects of this voyage of discovery is very much appreciated, too..

Yes :)

I am going one better and posting the fully automated build kit based on Iguleder's work. The big change though is that when it's time to swap over the DOTconfig to the kernel source the script pauses and offers to open a config tool of your choice to configure the kernel. Also, the slacko suffixes (custom and package_name) are hard coded so you need to change that unless you want ta slacko branded dpup kernel! You should not need to do anything manually, just run dir2pet. I can automate this too.. later maybe.

There is also a bug in 3builddistro in woof, I have a nasty hack for now but I'll explain the gist of it.

@ line 215 I had to change head to tail. This is because I have a custom naming. "head" or "tail" is wrong really and what should happen is that the symlink be read with readlink, but it was getting late and as usual I was running out of time  . If you don't do this you can end up with a non-booting iso image. You can see the error pop up if you look close when the kernel is merged with the rootfs. I'll patch it properly later and report to Barry.

Have fun!
