(Solved) How to use Novatel MC760 USB Modem in Lucid Puppy? |
|
Have Lucid Puppy installed, and would like to use a Novatel MC760 USB Modem.
Went to the following Setup guide, but, not sure what to use.
Should it be the Debian installation instructions, and the Debian Modem Driver Config_1.1_6, or something else?
If the above is the correct choice, how does on find out whether the system is configured to run Package Installer to follow through with the following:

Thanks for your help!!

What version of Lucid Puppy?
Have you booted Lucid Puppy with the modem plugged in?
If yes.
What happens?
Have you tried to plug in the USB modem and run Internet Connection Wizard? (menu->Setup->Internet Connection Wizard)
If yes.
What happens?

Thanks for your reply.
Version: 5.28 kernel: 2.6.33.2 Is that correct?
Have you booted Lucid Puppy with the modem plugged in?
If yes.
What happens?
Nothing!
Have you tried to plug in the USB modem and run Internet Connection Wizard? (menu->Setup->Internet Connection Wizard)
If yes.
What happens?
An Internet Connectio Wizard prompt comes up with all sorts of choices under the headings of:
Current Setup/status
Connect to
Tools
Desktop/tray
Under Desktop/tray, if Internet Connection Wizard is selected, and the Connect icon on the Desktop is clicked, a pgprs-connect promt appears (looks like a terminal, but it is white.
AT appears at the top
Then, it immediately goes to:
Exit status is 0
Disconnected
Thanks again for your help.

Plug in USB modem after Puppy boots.
I assume this is a wireless modem?
If yes.
There is a guide for wireless here:

3G modems like yours are supported by the "Internet by dialup analog or wireless modem" option obtained by clicking on the "connect" icon on the desktop. Before booting up, unplug the modem, shut down the PC, wait a minute, plug the modem back in and then start the PC. Try booting with "pfix=ram", to avoid interference from your previous attempts.
When you click "connect" you should see a modem detected as ttyUSB0. Click on the "dialup" option and answer the 2 dialog windows affirmatively. You should then get to Pupdial. Take it from there.

rerwin, thanks for your reply.
Had almost given up with this, however, would like to try your suggestion.

How does one go about doing the above? My level of experience in these matters is just basic.
Does one press the F2 key, then type pfix=ram and press: Enter?

canardblanc,
I infer that you have lucid pup 5.2.8 installed as frugal, which uses pupsave files. And that you added it to your grub boot loader menu.lst file.
To boot with "pfix=ram": - When you boot up, you should see a light blue screen with the name of the installation, which you either highlight and press <enter>, or allow to be used as the "default".
- Instead of pressing <enter>, press "e".
- On the next screen you should see a line beginning with "kernel". Highlight that line and press "e".
- Then use the right-arrow or "end" key to get to the end of that line.
- Type a space and then "pfix=ram" (without the quotes), then <enter>.
- Then press "b" to continue booting up. Let puppy create a new pupsave file when you shut down. When you reboot, you will be able to choose either of your pupsaves. Give the new pupsave a different name than the original.
Or you can boot from the CD and enter "puppy pfix=ram" when the puppy 5.2.8 screen appears.
