Linux kernel vulnerability now patched! Ubuntu and so on

#1 Post by nooby »

Funny thing is that I found this one by accident and
tried to get people's comment on Ubuntu forum and on
Linux Mint forum and on LinuxQuestions and none
got worried or tried to explain it or give any clue on it.

My wild guess was that they worked behind the curtains
to stop it as fast as possible and that seems to be the truth.

Now it is fixed. These kernels have the vulnerability.
2.6.39, 3.0, 3.1 the new 3.2

A code that exploit it is named mempodipper and that allow
the exploiter to get Admin permissions on even Ubuntu.

That was what I found out by pure accident when I changed
a boot code and could boot Ubuntu and do anything that Puppy
can to even though me still restriced "Live Session User".

So something odd was going on but now it is solved as I predicted. :)

Obviously I understood nothing of it and did not knew anything about
the mempodipper and such bad things. I was only happy that I could
use Ubuntu in same way as I use Puppy. So sadly those days are over!

I have no link to English that I have read. The text was in Swedish
but they link to NSA????????

I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

google translate does a pretty good job with that Swedish site
NSA referenced to SELinux hardening Android

Also what I noticed whilst there:
Android apps compatibility coming to linux 3.3 kernel, though power management won't be implemented until 3.4 in the Autumn

....and Tribler, distributed bit-torrent file-sharing program, claims to not be able to be shut down!

Good find, nooby!
