How to transfer files to a separate partition?

#1 Post by RoyBell »

I have three partitions:

I.e.
sda1 (18GB ext3) [Operating System]
sda5 (2GB Linux swap)
sda6 (37GB ext3) [Home - Partition for personal files]

The operating system (5.2) is Hard Installed on sda1.

When I open the file manager to transfer personal files there is no access to sda6.
This happens whether its mounted or not.
If I click on the sda6 icon at the bottom of the screen I get a file window.

How can I get the file manager so see sda6?

I've got it sorted now!!

I should have looked at:

/mnt/sda6

I won't be a newbie for ever, I promise!!

Dear Roy,

I like it that you answered your own question. :) Obviously, you won't be a "newbie" for ever. We all started out with immense knowledge deficits and have learned something along the way. Welcome to the kennels.

With kind regards,

I'm curious about what your problem actually was.
If I click on the sda6 icon at the bottom of the screen I get a file window.
Did you mean you got a filer window? Wasn't this window open in /mnt/sda6?
Do you know a good gtkdialog program? Please post a link here

Hi "disciple",

I wrote a document and then wanted to save it.
From the "Save" window I couldn't see the sda6 partition that I was looking for.
Due to my lack of knowledge I was expecting to see sda6 in a prominent place as it would be in MS Windows. I didn't know to look in "/mnt".

The "File window" I referred to was poorly explained by me and I didn't know about "rox filer", and it being referred to as "filer" by the Puppy community.

What I meant was a "Window" containing the file list from sda6.

Sorry for the confusion. I'll have to do some more reading!
