Looking for HanSamBen

#1 Post by nmst »

I looked here

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=56557

but looks like some of the SFS files (in filefront.com) are no longer available.

Please help!

Thanks.

Hi nmst - welcome to the kennels!
Really sorry that I didn't see your request before now- I usually lurk around all the HSB threads and I might have spotted you sooner. I haven't heard peep from sidders since his fab HSB431 release, but I think I have all his ISO's, pets and sfs all archived away. Will post again soon about where to download them from. Do you have any urgent requests?

nmst I'm so sorry for my tardiness -

I've located in my archives all (most?) the iso's that sidders made for the Puppy4 series, and I've posted them

1) Go to http://www.mydrive.ch
2) Sign on with username "puppyt" and password "puppylinux"
3) The files are located in the HSB>ISOs directory

Currently this repository has:
Hansamben.iso 211 MB (Puppy 4.12)
HanSamBen431.iso 219 MB (Puppy 4.31)
HanSamBenLivecdOz.iso 174 MB (Kiosk version for Australian audience)
Hansambenretro.sfs 270 MB (Puppy 4.31 on an earlier kernel)

What I'm hoping to do is also post all the SFS's that sidders produced. I've been able to take a puppy 412barebones and, adding the SFS's of choice actually reproduce a customised HSB-looking pupplet. I'm sure others would like those choices. These include kde, childsplay, etoys etc (though I don't have his CUPS sfs).

There are also some selective pets around that would be ideal to expand HSB further - green_domes' Wine pets I think would be mostly compatible with the 431-HSB's, and Asri produced OpenOfficeLight for kids (OOo4Kids). That pet is still available at various locations via the Puppy forums.

If anyone is vaguely interested, PM me or post here for these pets and sfs' - I'd like to test them out again from scratch, and maybe provide some updated pets that work with the original HSB bases.

Again - really sorry for the delay in getting back to this,
Puppyt

I can't login,

I have HSB 4.12 but would like latest version.

I would also like the programs you mention that will extend its functions.

I think it is a great puppy for kids.

Thanks for tracking these isos down.

Hey pete22,

I just checked the "puppyt" mydrive repository - my login worked, so perhaps you might have made a typo? Not to worry - sidders re-posted the isos aslo on another mydrive repository: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 401#607401 - see if that one works for you,
HTH?

Hi Pete22,

I've just had my first look at sidder's repository at mydrive (e.g., http://www.mydrive.ch/browse#/13446214/431, illustrated in the attachment - but you'll need the username "puppy@sidders" and password "puppylinux" if that link is going to function). He's got all his iso's and sfs' listed there, with MD5's for download checking. More - he's also included SFS's for 5.11 Puppy, which I don't remember him announcing before (good news!). I haven't thrown them up as sidders already has done so - but I can upload various pets and tips etc there depending on your particular needs.

If you tell me what version of HSB you might be interested in (vintage of your hardware, age group of the children), I could suggest mediaplayers (existing pets - I've never built one myself) that work best on what particular versions, or are easy for the kids to navigate. For example, ttuuxx put out a version of VLC (an 'h' edition?) that worked really well indeed on an old PIII box with HSB412. 'Childsplay' is loads of fun for the younger (<6yo), but 'GCompris' is the ants-pants - I think the most recent version is included in his "511' directory but I haven't tested. OOo4kids - an office suite geared for pre-teens I guess - is another pet worth testing in the HSB environment,
See how you go,
Cheers,
Puppyt
