James.. was that the machine which normally drew a blank when running report-video where the driver is listed? Is this straight from boot to desktop or did you run xorgwizard?
I've tried to eliminate the "lie" that sometimes "vesa" is reported without actually breaking the truth when vesa is actually the driver. Also tried to eliminate any "driver not found" or whatever messages but it is still a fall back.
Also, I can't recall if that slickpet hanging issue is fixed for you when running the video test, hopefully it is.

Just attempted to install the nvidia-96.43.20-k3.1.10-slacko_4gx3-s driver on the Athlon XP install. Rebooted still using nouveau driver.... attempting to switch to the Nvidia driver resulted in being unable to start X. Deleted savefile and restarted fresh...... again.

Boots straight to the desktop using the nouveau driver and reports correctly as using nouveau. Using "test graphics" in Slickpet results in a "sorry no driver......" message but I had the driver already saved.

That gnumeric failure is due to the lack of the gnome help browser called YELP. As you can imagine it's a bloated gnome app that requires a bunch of useless to puppy dependencies. The gnumeric sources need to be patched by someone smarter than me in C to allow opening the web help in the defaultbrowser. |
Thanks for the explanation, I didn't know that was how Gnumeric handled URLs and had assumed it simply reached out to see what was the default browser. An odd bit of clunkiness in what is otherwise an excellent spreadsheet.

Looks like it, I went straight through Network Wizard in the normal way without having to go through the additional dialogues. Should I be concerned that I know the IP addresses of my ISP's Primary and Secondary DNS servers off by heart?

All seems well for PAE testing. Ran into a PPM issue and have PM to you on it.
Thanks

James,
The old drivers for nvidia wont work as kernel names are different, now identifies as 3.1.10-slacko_4gU, that's enough to bork all existing nvidia drivers, it only means more work for me..
Once this kernel is proven solid and stable I'll compile and upload to ibiblio nvidia and amd video drivers, and ndiswrapper (not done as yet)

Hi Mick,
I had the same problem as reported above using an existing save file that had a recent NVIDIA driver version 290.10. I was able to manually select nv to get it to work, however, reinstalling the NVIDIA driver contaminated the background images so I discarded the old save file and created a new one.
Installing the new NVIDIA Driver Version 295.20 was successful with the new save file. Everything appears to be working fine.
Cheers,
Jim

hm, just a thought!
I'm wondering how much is actually different between a pae and non-pae build and if part of the install could test and install the correct files.
Something, I think, to put into your 5.3.4 todo anyway.
downloading now....

As I reported earlier with the previous release, Gparted errored out again while attempting to reformat a partition.... leaving the partion as "unknown". Prior occurance was on the P4 test box, this time was on the Athlon XP box.Went ahead and formatted with Exprimo both times with no problem.
Evidently it's only happening here but thought I'd report it.
