perfoming a ¨switch_root to the layered filesystem...Kernel panic-not syncing

Hi, it is an old laptop if I don't mistake.
I think you should use some puppy linux for older hardware for this laptop like Wary or Puppy 431. I don't have a laptop but I'm sure someone will suggest you better laptop puppy version than me.
Cheers

Wow, that probably is 300mhz with only 96mb ram? more specs please
People have got them working, but puppy development moves on, so you may need a better PC to download and burn ISOs with, if it won't run with the version you're trying
often on older hardware you may need to add
or some other boot parameter at the 5 second boot page, to prevent that message

here's a similar problem machine

You may also need to go into your bios and turn off plug and play, and set the boot order to CD 1st, if it isn't
You don't say which puppy version you are trying, but instead, try an earlier 214X or 4.2.1R, or Wary 522

http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/quirky/wary-5.2.2/wary-5.2.2.iso
good luck
