http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/250899/mobile_linux_its_not_just_android_anymore.html

WebOS news has been a bit quiet, but other developments are overshadowed by the Raspberry PI launch this morning

2 servers down, and sellout within 1 hour of 6am launch...

http://www.techweekeurope.co.uk/news/raspberry-pi-launch-a-pc-for-the-price-of-a-pair-of-jeans-63701

Expect more linux news, not just mobile, this year, as it appears to be becoming 'acceptable' to many non-tech-geek ordinary users.... Very Happy

Nokia has always been Linux (Symbian).
Now that they have sold their soul to Microshit, I won't be buying another Nokia. They have just released their last Symbian phone.
I will be looking at HTC and Huawei next year when it comes time to upgrade.
Both make excellent products.

And after having typical Windose PC-type issues with Win-CE on 4 other devices (Satnav, 4-CH DVR, Multimedia player, Camcorder) I will never knowingly buy another product that has been contaminated by Microshit. They just don't seem to be able to get ANYTHING right.

Ize gonna get me a RasPi.
Iz that a Pi with source?
Will it eventually sell for $3.14?

Im still using a Nokia N95 version 1 amazing phone when it first came out and the stills camera still holds its own against modern smart phones!
Nokia phones have always been quite expensive and going down the windows os route is sure to add more cost to their handsets especially on PAYG - i don't know why they dont bite the bullet and put Android on their phones ?

My next phone will be an Android - i shall be holding off buying until later this year when the dual core versions drop in price.

It is indeed a shame how Nokia has been let go to the dogs.
Probably a team of economic rationalists took over management.
They certainly produced the best phones.

At least in different parts of the world it's easy to switch phones and carriers. In the US phones are branded. When you get a phone from a particular carrier, it will ONLY work with that carrier. Then you are locked into a contract for about two years to pay for a phone you cannot use on any other network. If you break the contract, you pay the company a fine and the difference in what is owed on the phone. The phone prices are of course extortionate, because they lock in the customer. Interestingly enough, in the US, the biggest mobile carriers are the most expensive, because they can lock the poor customer into that contract and charge whatever they want for those "free" phones they offer.
I am finally in the position where I can use an unbranded phone and activate with a smaller carrier for a huge saving. 55 dollars a month for full unlimited service and a new unlocked android phone for less than 40 dollars.

I wonder if that's why I never had a bit of trouble with my Nokia? Hmm sweet.

Symbian has never been Linux ...
And in fact pre-dates it by a wide margin in the form of EPOC (which I did some coding for a long time ago).

Is Symbian fully open sourced?

Would it be faster than Linux on the R Pi?

My read on that is that it was close-sourced just before Nokia did the windoze deal, but was open before that, if it can be found...

I guess they've obviously never seen this....[or the continuing parts of it]

I may be wrong, but I believe any open source code that gets closed must contain the references to open source authorships
