It works like a charm, a lot more interesting than transmission. Thanks.

Lucky you. All I get is "Error, package tixati-1.8.3.pet failed to install."
Running Wary Puppy 5.2.2.
Transmission OTOH, easily installed. It just never loaded when I tried to activate it. Not even an error statement...it just did nothing.
So I was delighted to learn of this Tixati client...but now, oh hey, WTF.

hi PupPupAndAway
i just tested tixati on wary 5.2.2 and it needs two extra .deps to work. i've attached them on the first post.
however, the fact that the .pet failed to install indicates a different problem. either the download is corrupt, or your savefile is full, or you've borked your wary install somehow.
i would suggest downloading the pet again and check the md5... plus the two deps and see how you get on

I may take a risk to nerve, but doesn't this --> THE END USER MAY NOT ... ... redistribute <-- include publishing via forums?
Shouldn't we resist such temptations?

Wow, that's cool. Is to get permissions to redistribute always that easy?
Was this your first request on such thing?
I would like to get permission to redistribute wavosaur (win). Wavosaur needs wine, but it can run as portable application.
Any hints, how to do (i did never do this)?

Okay, I downloaded/installed 'em. Thanx.
Quote: | however, the fact that the .pet failed to install indicates a different problem. either the download is corrupt, or your savefile is full, or you've borked your wary install somehow. |
Let us not forget that often, file-share servers also corrupt transfers, Mediafire is one such. I've had more bad downloads from them, than other sites. Anywayz:
Download Manager displays correct file size of 13.4MB. However, file manager shows it to be just 115KB! And of course therefore the md5 sum does /not/ match.
So instead of downloading before installing, I just set SeaMonkey to run petget when ready...and Tixati installed very well, thank you.
And it actually loads, unlike Transmission. However, I can't get it to download anything via SeaMonkey. That is: it successfully downloads the few *.torrent files I'm testing. But it doesn't automatically run Tixati.
And when I "open" (or double-click) one of these torrents, I get no response.
If I click on a magnet URL, SeaMonkey says "magnet is not a registered protocol".
When I try to "add" a file under Tixati's transfer window, and I navigate to my download folder, the window appears blank, in spite of the fact I have several files that end in .torrent, located there!
Now, I can copy a magnet URL and paste it into Tixati, and voila, it begins transfer.
Shouldn't I use some sort of IP filter, for better security? Where can I get one of those?
And what settings are best (security/privacy-wise) for when I'm transferring via public wifi? (I do not have broadband at home, only dialup. And I do not subscribe to VPN, or care to use that mangled piece of insanity a.k.a. "Tor proxy".)
I've used various torrent clients, such as uTorrent and Transmission (and Ktorrent and Qtorrent)...and while I find them somewhat difficult, I can manage on my own. But Tixati is another level of confusion.
I'm not a hacker nor a coder, I am just an avid fan of Linux (a skilled PC hobbyist IOW), and can pretty much find my way around. IOW: I shouldn't be experiencing this much difficulty with a torrent client, if it were designed a bit more user friendly and a bit less geeky. But at least I can now download magnet links, if nothing else.
Thanks for your help, and any further help you care to impart.
UPDATE:
This time it downloaded properly. Three previous attempts (between yesterday and today) gave me just 115KB! Well, that's MediaFire for ya.
So I just associated torrent files w/Tixati under Seamonkey "Preferences > Browser > Helper Applications". But I still get that error. Even restarting the browser did not clear this up. *sigh* (If I have to /reboot/ to make this thing work properly, I'll eat my hat!)
UPDATE 2:
OMFG...a reboot /did/ set it right. Now SeaMonkey has torrent files associated w/Tixati. What's up with that...trying to make former Windoze users feel right at home?

hi PupPupAndAway
not sure why you needed a reboot, as seamonkey associated with torrents straight away with me...... not sure about magnet links in wary though, they associate fine in lucid puppy.
as for ip blocking there's this but i'm not sure if if works on wary http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=47654
however transmission has a blocklist setting in it's preferences. and transmission is already installed and working in wary!! installing a different transmission must have broken the original.
wary's original transmission is here http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/pet_packages-wary5/transmission-2.22-1-i386.pet

i think you can just download the update, unzip it, and run it from the extracted folder.
