Subject description: FOM pup or a redo

Hi all i am trying to build a puppy. my previous attempt i had allot of help from another user who has moved on although he made some good changes i don't know how he did them. for more information and to test the os see this forum post. There you will see the changes and things done to it. i would like some feed back as to what people think of the, optimised and tweaked 525 based, alpha2 release. If it is worth using.i will continue on with that release. if not i will start from scratch with 528.004

if i start again which is more likely at this stage i would want to do is add
    xfce.desktop
    thunar filemanager
chromium.browser (i would use firefox if it can be optimised to run beter than chromium)
these are the starting points. which i can install pritty easily. i would like to know how i can optemise them to run best. and also .remove extra apps and things no longer needed eg
    openbox,
tweaking apps to use thuner and maybe remove rox
remove office apps including sylpheed and link to google docs and gmail. (if i do this i will link to the office apps if people want to get them).
other things to consider adding or providing pets etc for would be
    thunderbird with lightening calendar extension.
    libreoffice

basically i am wanting a very stripped out puppy to begin with and probably a nop base would suit my idea best. but i don't see any lupu or slacko nop pups I don't have much experience or use with slacko I also like some ideas in lighthouse pup but atm it is on hold, last i heard.

overall i would like some feedback if possible so i have some ideas then i will continue building and see what happens.

You could use Saluki with no adrive
that will get you xfce and a barebone set up
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/Saluki

Lucid is being phased out
so Racy (Saluki is based on Racy), Wary or Slacko
might be a better place to develop a fresh start from . . .

Cool

Saluki is definitely what you want.

The saluki custom builder is a new way to remaster that avoids all the pitfalls of a traditional remaster. It has most of the power of woof without the learning curve.

Plus we have a great repo and it's pretty easy to get stuff added.

The only thing is that chrome 12 is the most recent version that will work due to the way it's compiled. But Firefox should run pretty well.

ok so i downloaded and tested Saluki both 014 and 015 on usb, they will not work. I can boot into the desktop ok, with the usual puppy first time boot welcome screen. that's it.I cannot use mouse, keyboard, mousepad, or do anything.
solved after asking in the Saluki forum post i found i need to include zdrive.sfs from the iso it works great now solved
    * I tryed without the adrive.sfs and found it to bare bones.
    * with the adrive.sfs in includes more things i will need I should be able to make make a new adrive.sfs file for my puplet taking the things i need from the original and adding my own ones. will have to see if this is doable
Now i can start to build with confidence that i am going to have a good base for my puplet that will be supported and maintained.
