Lobster Pawedcast

#1 Post by Lobster »

http://raspberrypy.tumblr.com/post/2021 ... e-new-ipad

OK my first pawed cast recorded on the new Ipad
Edited (slightly) in Puppy
and then uploaded to the Raspberry Py blog
You will need Flash installed to listen

'twas a process.
The strange wheezing noise is me breathing
as I recorded lying on the floor (not ideal)
Also the Ipad software (wavepad) seems to have
boosted the bass and nomalized when it converted to mp3.
When I edited in Puppy mhwavedit the file grew from about 850k to 2MB
Que?

Subjects include:
  • Tmxxine server
    Racy, Wary, Slacko
    Puppy on ARM processors

The audio heard via the flash player only has a bandwidth of 5.5KHz, (sample rate 11025KHz), not so much bass-boost but treble-amputation. This is probably your fault : due to the the sample rate settings on your audio recording device and audio editor, (but could possibly due to limitations set by your audio host to reduce their bandwidth).

mhwavedit could have resampled the recording at a higher sample rate when you saved it, which would increase the file size but without improving the sound quality. For a good quality voice (not music) recording try ensuring all the audio settings (including the recorder) are on 22050Hz sample rate and use a bit rate of 64Kbps when saving as mp3.

Thanks very much Barkin.
Always good to know how to improve.
I must admit I play about with the methodology precisely to explore new options

It’s a trade-off between audio file size and sound quality.
IMO your recording, although comprehensible, is below typical podcast quality : it’s like listening to a Dictaphone or via a poor mobile phone connection.

I listened to some of the other audio on the tumblr it seems that very high quality sound is possible via that host ...

http://tuneage.tumblr.com/post/15185427771/of-monsters-and-men-dirty-paws

i.e. low sample-rate, and low bit-rate settings on your recording device / audio editor seem to be the prime suspects for the low (Dictaphone) quality sound of your podcast.

If you just want an audio-only podcast you could try soundcloud.com ... http://soundcloud.com/rbr/podcast-podcast
An audio-only podcast downloads / streams much quicker than an audio+video podcast.

[ BTW the sound quality on the above is much better than on your previous podcast ]

They're just arbitrary numbers anyway

Err, it's 2012 where I live (which is only about 100 miles from you)

Vimeo still says 2004.

Are the time police after you or have you finally transcended mere temporal existence?

:D

it's "multiuser" not "multiboot" for fatdog
Still part of the conventional time line despite trying to unlock the genetic code used in quantum tunneling.
